Kimballslice1890 8 Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Just a feature request. I am by no means an app developer so I do not know what it would take, but Picture in Picture mode would be awesome if the Emby app could make use of it. 2
Luke 42077 Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Hi, I thought we had already added this. Have you tried it?
Kimballslice1890 8 Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 Just tried it on my Pixel and Nexus 6P, Did not work on either.
Saifo1999 2 Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 @@Luke He doesn't mean the IPTV PiP where you watch 2 channels at the same time He meant the new Oreo PiP mode where you watch a video in a small window on top of other apps see the screenshots and i have tried both the stable Google play edition and the beta google play edition and both do not have this feature it would be awesome if you added it 2
Kimballslice1890 8 Posted December 1, 2017 Author Posted December 1, 2017 Sorry for being absent from the post. Exaclty what Saifo1999 said! I did attempt it and it did not work. Saifo example is with the youtube app I believe.
Luke 42077 Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Ok, we're looking into this, thanks guys. @@CBers you'll like this.

rechner123 12 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Hi I tried the multi window with chrome and emby. This work only if the emby app, i don't know how to say, is in foreground. I do this very often, but with two different browsers. In this case the video is playing while surfing in the other browser.
Luke 42077 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Using the emby app, just click the home button on your device during video playback and that will activate the picture in picture feature.
rechner123 12 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 I know. But the video stops playing when i click on the second window.
Luke 42077 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 You need to be using the test build i've linked to above.
rechner123 12 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 You mean the libmpv version? This version i tried now also but the video stops instantly if i click on the other window.
Luke 42077 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Well you don't click on another window, you click the home button on your device.
rechner123 12 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Oh luke i am sorry. I have confused oreo with nougat and there i meant the multi window funktion.
Luke 42077 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 yea currently if you switch to another app the video will pause and this is by design. it's always something we can reconsider though.
rechner123 12 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 This would be cool. Also some of the new phones have near a 2:1 display where this can be used good i think.
Luke 42077 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 There are improvements for this in the beta version of the app. If you'd like to try that you can learn how here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/24350-android-open-beta-testing/ Thanks !
rechner123 12 Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 yea currently if you switch to another app the video will pause and this is by design. it's always something we can reconsider though. Is this function possible? With the pip function, the video is so small and the size can not be changed. In the multiwindow view, the screen is better utilized in the portait view. This works with a second browser, but I would rather use the app. thanks
Luke 42077 Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 In our case android decides how big to make the picture in picture window, as it is a system function.
rechner123 12 Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 That's why i don't want to use PIP. So it would be nice if in the multi window screen, the emby app will continue playing!
Luke 42077 Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 It's possible for a future update, yes. Thanks.
SikSlayer 249 Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 (edited) I find PiP very useful when I'm watching YouTube and trying to look something up on my browser at the same time. And now I've noticed it's there in the beta on my Note 9! Works great! Except if the screen locks, the video cuts out, and you'll see black unless you stop and restart the video.
