ads 2 Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Hi All Currently using emby with homerun tuner on an amazon box I looking at a new tv (maybe 4k) and wondering if i should go smart screen with emby as a app on LG or samsung Or just use a TV as a monitor as i do now with a amazon fire tv box (v2) I could re-purpose the amazon box onto another screen so its not like i am throwing it away Most important thing is ease of use and wondering if i could loose the side click remote etc I wondering those of you that have experienced both could chip in Is the amazon app on tv a nice experience? Does emby run as well on a TV Interested please Thanks

tdiguy 99 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Personally i think anything over 1080 is overkill. But i am partially color blind and have astigmatism so I basically dont see in HD anyway lol. For ease of use its hard to beat a amazon fire, i would also compare the difference cost wise between a smart tv and similar non smart tv and consider if the upgrade is actually worth it or if simply buying another amazon fire tv is more worthwhile ( which there is a new version that is 70$ ). The last time i went tv shopping the price difference was not worth it and most tv's use proprietary app stores which bugs the daylights out of me.
legallink 187 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 I would choose a box. The interface is better and I find the performance better as well. The tv apps I’ve used are fine but navigation and use is not as good as on the streaming boxes.
BAlGaInTl 288 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Here's my opinion... Always buy a TV for the video quality. NEVER even think about the "smart" features. The smart features bundled with sets are almost always quickly out of date, and rarely really updated. If you get a TV that happens to have decent smart features, that's a bonus... But trust me. The set will definitely outlive those features. 1

I typically choose the xbox one, sometimes the Nexus... but never the 'smart' tv itself.
mastrmind11 722 Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 +1, just picked up a 2nd Shield for my living room and moved the MiBox to the kids room. Such a difference. Problem being it gets pretty confusing since all the apps are now on both the TV and the MiBox. Thankfully watched state syncs ev everywhere, but still kind of a PITA when the kids get confused.... That and the MiBox doesn't have Amazon Video, which I didn't even realize until I moved the box over. But why would it be easy?
