csadoian 36 Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 I have been running on Emby 3.2.33.0 for a while now with very few problems. Yesterday I updated to 3.2.34 and something went horribly wrong. It may have been part my doing, but I'm not sure. When I did the update to 3.2.34.0, I noticed that Luke had posted the .net core version, as well as the standard version. I decided to install the .net core version. I downloaded "embyserver-win-x64-3.2.34.0.7z" archive, unzipped it, renamed my old System folder to System.old, then created a new System folder and stuck the files in there. I then fired up Emby and it seemed to run fine. However, this morning I went to use my Emby Theater for Windows client and I notice the LIVE TV section is all messed up. I at first thought it was an interface issue, so I removed Emby Theater and downloaded a fresh version. That didn't help. I run Emby Theater in desktop mode, and the Live TV section seems to be missing. I see the icon in the "My Media" section, but if I click on it I am taken to a screen with "Programs, Channels, Recordings, Schedule, and Series" across the top. Nothing shows on the bottom. If I move to Channels I see my channels, and I can pick one and it will play. If I go to Recordings I can see my recordings. If I go to Schedule I see nothing. If I go to Series I do see my scheduled series. I don't see a guide at all. If I open up Emby for Android TV on the side menu I see the menu items "On Now" and "Continue Watching" for a moment, then they disappear. Clearly something got blown away. I have rolled back to 3.2.33.0 but I have the same behavior. Not sure what to do at this point. Before you ask, in the dashboard, under "Emby Premiere", it shows "You have a Lifetime Emby Premiere plan and your device usage is well within your limit" server-63644520746.txt
Luke 42089 Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 @@csadoian You have followed an unsupported update process. Nowhere do we list tampering with your system folder as part of our update process. I would suggest a clean installation.
csadoian 36 Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 That's what I am doing now. What is the proper procedure to follow if I were to want to switch to the .net core release from the standard release?
csadoian 36 Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 After doing a clean install and restoring my configuration from a backup done before I did the upgrade, everything is working fine now. When you have time, I would like to know how one would go about switching from the standard release to the .net core release. At this point I would guess it would involve another clean install. Thanks.
Sammy 790 Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Mine rolled as an update by itself and I didn't know there was a .net core version out there other than the beta going on. I assume mine is the standard .net framework v4.6.2.
csadoian 36 Posted October 25, 2017 Author Posted October 25, 2017 I think the .net core is considered still to be in beta (see: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/releases ) , and I made the mistake of thinking I could just download the binaries and put them in the System folder, which is what I have done on occasion with the regular beta releases. If I had done a little bit more reading I would have seen the thread in the testing area ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/50012-emby-server-for-net-core/ ) that is dedicated to the .net core build. My mistake.
csadoian 36 Posted October 27, 2017 Author Posted October 27, 2017 Yup just run the installers. Luke, just to be clear, clean install, right? Can one do a clean install of the .net core version and then use Backup & Restore plugin to restore the configuration from the production version?
Happy2Play 9785 Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Luke, just to be clear, clean install, right? Can one do a clean install of the .net core version and then use Backup & Restore plugin to restore the configuration from the production version? Everything in the Restore process should be good except Plugins as not all of them are compatible. Personally if I were doing a clean install I would only restore Users and User data.
