add music folders to library

Recommended Posts

I'm at a loss with a very simple task and I am embarrassed even to ask but I'm not sure what I need to do to add new music content recently downloaded to my computer or ripped from my CDs to my emby music library. I tried deleting the library and adding it again, no  luck. I've tried scanning the library multiple times. For some reason that eludes me completely I can only play some specific folders only with windows media player but the folders are not available in emby. I'd appreciate any suggestions

Are you sure the 'new music' is in the same folder as your previous additions? I ask because it's possible to put in on a different drive or something without realising, so check which paths you've pointed the music library at from the server dashboard. My library is on a couple of different drives but I still managed to copy some music into the wrong folder once. Second thing to check is whether you've set it up with a supported file structure (check the wiki for the right way to do it).

Thanks Ryan for the advice. I keep all my music in my laptop in the same folder subdivided into genres so I doubt it's an issue of multiple drives.

I always used the same path to add library  c\users\victor\... I guess I'll have to try different paths if I managed to figure out which ones will get me where I want to be

alright it looks like I got it. for some reason I thought that if I delete and than add the whole music library emby will pick up the new additions. but it turns out I have to select folder by folder each new album individually. problem solved after too many failed attempts but at least I am one step ahead.

Hi @@vbiceaga, what do you mean exactly by

select folder by folder each new album individually

All you really need to do is run a library scan. Can you show us what your Emby library setup looks like, perhaps a screenshot? thanks.

And not sure if you've seen this wiki page @@vbiceaga , but it's worth a look if you're having to do something as unusual as point to each album folder:

(you would point your library path at "music" in this first example, obviously)

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Music%20naming

You mentioned subdivisions for genres, if the way you're doing this is interfering then perhaps try just pointing to each main genre folder in the library paths, rather than going down to album level? Eg: point to the 'jazz'/'rock'/'classical'/etc genre folders in your library setup, then have:

\Jazz \Artist Name \Album Name 1- Song.mp3 2- Song.mp3
