Home videos & photos: Primary images are compressed to landscape

I have a "videos & photos" library with videoname-poster.jpg and videoname-landscape.jpg images.

With layout set to "poster" or "poster card" the primary images get compressed to a 16:9 landscape format,

where with previous server versions they were shown in portrait mode. This happens in all browsers and the Android app.
