FF a recorded show causes it to restart from the beginning

I have an episode that was recorded by Emby server (from a HDHomerun Connect) that will always restart playback from the beginning whenever I try to fast forward.  This only happens when playing from the Fire TV app.  If I play the same recording with the web app I can fast forward or skip without any issues.  The recording is direct playing on the Fire TV and I enabled the option "Automatically convert recordings to a streaming friendly format" in the server.  Attached my server log.

Not all recordings show this issue though.  I have other recordings that fast forward without issue on the Fire TV app.

It seems like the issue I'm having is similar to this one:

I just sent logs from the app (7:50pm CDT 10/20/17).  Title of recording that was playing was "The Gifted", Emby username "saber".

This time the failure was a little different.  Fast forwarding seemed to work fine, but when I tried to rewind, the playback would exit back to the show description page.

Okay, the item is playing in VLC and it hates it.  It is reporting dropped frames and, when you tried to seek backwards it was unable to do it and, instead, reported to the app that the item was finished.

The only thing I can suggest right now is to uncheck the option to convert these during recording.  I imagine that will create recordings that play much better.

OK I will disable that setting in the server and keep an eye on this issue.

One other thing I noticed with my recent recordings is that CC/subtitles aren't available.  Is this related to this conversion issue?

If you disable the conversion feature then they should be there. Thanks.

So after a few recordings with the "streaming-friendly" conversion disabled, I have not encountered the FF/RW issue.  So far so good.

But, I still am not seeing any CCs/subtitles in any of my recordings.  And actually I noticed that I don't see any option to turn them on when watching live TV.  This is happening on both the Fire TV app and the web client.  If I watch TV using the HDHomerun app, I am able to turn on CC's without an issue.  Is there some other setting that I'm missing?

Can you please play one of these channels that you know has a CC stream for just a few seconds and then send another in-app log?  Thanks.

Well if he has turned off Record-transcode then it will be a .ts which at the very least you will remux.

I have also seen that you seem to be dropping the CC stream in the remux together with 2nd audio - see remux log attatched.

I think you used to preserve the other streams.

i.e.  I have lost the ability to see CC on recorded content.

I think you guys across the pond are different (but not sure).  Over here, CC is actually embedded in the video stream so I'd like to see if the player can see that in his case.

Would you like me to start a new thread with regards to UK subtitles being dropped?

I think Spaceboy has that covered right now but his issue is actually that they are there and selectable, but the server is having trouble actually playing them.

To a degree. He is talking about Live TV AND from a mediaportal source.  I am talking about recorded content BY EMBY from HDHR directly and it is evident that FFMPEG is NOT being told to copy the other streams when remuxing or transcoding.

Okay, that would be specific to the server and I'm pretty sure Luke is already aware and that it is a limitation at the moment with ffmpeg due to it not being able to reliably get those streams.

Try recording without using the conversion feature.

I'm not usinig record transcoding - I know of the MKV issue discussed elsewhere.

The log I included above is a remux log on playback to Fire TV.  This used to work for CC in a .ts

I just reproduced the issue and sent the logs from the FireTV app.  No option to turn on subtitles for live TV.   I was watching Live TV, channels 5.1 (nbc) and 7.1 (abc), username: saber.

Also here is the matching server log.

Okay, thanks.  It is direct playing the file and no CC stream is detected by the player.  So, it must've been lost in the recording process.

Just to clarify, when I reproduced the issue I was watching live TV and not a recorded show.  Also, watching live TV on the web client I don't have the option to turn on CC either.

So I guess this is a server side issue?
