tman 47 Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I've been trying out 2.9.3 with MVP as an alternative to MadVR (thought it might be worth another shot). I felt the time was right as this new version finally has refresh rate switching built in. What I've noticed though, when it's enabled, is that the refresh rate switching will also kick in if you have theme backgrounds enabled. This means, that from the main screen, if you open a movie with a 24p theme background, the screen will blank for 1-2 seconds while it switches, then show the movie details. If you back out, the screen will blank again for 1-2s while it switches back. It's really annoying and jarring. Ideally, what you'd want is for theme backgrounds not to force the switch - it should only happen on the main feature. Other than that, the switching *does* work, which is good. 1

randomevents 38 Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I'll have to check my settings, I thought I had theme backgrounds enabled and did't see the issue, i'll get back to this later today 1
randomevents 38 Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 The changes were pushed to the repo, but until the next build here's something you can work with. 20171017 Refresh Rate 2.9.3 emby.theater.zip

AdrianW 1058 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 The refresh rate switch appears to be working well - but I've noticed one issue: if you let a video run to the end so it automatically exits back to the details screen, the refresh rate doesn't switch back. But, when playing and then pressing stop or the back button the refresh rate does switch back. @@randomevents

I'm seeing this refresh rate switch too. Usually to 30fps so 60fps should work fine here in the States. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
randomevents 38 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 (edited) Do you have logs, we'll have to see if a handler somewhere upstream from the script is not properly saying that the stream has finished. Your explicit stop action to the video shows that mpv is exiting properly in that scenario Edited October 23, 2017 by randomevents
AdrianW 1058 Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Do you have logs Here's a server log - I played two trailers, the first one "Daddy's Home 2" I played to the end - it switched to 24Hz at the beginning but didn't switch back at the end. I then played a few seconds of "All Nighter" and then pressed stop and then the refresh rate changed back to 60Hz. The ET log shows nothing relating to starting or stopping playback.
AdrianW 1058 Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 So, any chance of getting the refresh rate to switch back when a video finishes?

AdrianW 1058 Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Need a mpv.conf log Does that mean it's working for you? I assumed it would be failing for everyone not just me. How do I get an mpv.conf log?

Sammy 790 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Great Thanks.Still having issues here. Sime files that played well the other day don't today and I've changed no settings in ET. Currently, I have frame rate switching turned off. Could it be Intel iGPU HD4600? Should I get a GPU? If yes, which one around $150? TIA Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
tman 47 Posted October 30, 2017 Author Posted October 30, 2017 I finally got round to trying the temporary fix until the next full build release. It certainly stopped the refresh rate switching on theme backgrounds, which is good, but it seemed to actually break refresh rate switching altogether - the main movie doesn't switch at all now - 24P movies @ 50hz are a juddery site to behold!
Sammy 790 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I'm giving up on Frame Rate Switching until I get a better GPU.
AdrianW 1058 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I'm giving up on Frame Rate Switching until I get a better GPU. It's been working fine on my NUC (which has an intel iGPU) - I can't see why there's anything intensive about changing refresh rate. It's all the fancy scaling algorithms that chew up GPU cycles.
