Sahne 16 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Hi I am little confused regarding the dot net version. Is the new emby version already on dotnet? If you update from previous version or only if you do new install? This question refers to windows version.

ebr 16190 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Just to add to the confusion (actually, hopefully clarify) Emby has always been built on .Net. The new implementation is using .Net Core... 1
Sahne 16 Posted October 13, 2017 Author Posted October 13, 2017 Yes I know. I noticed ones I hit that „post button“ that I made a mistake. Funny thing I wondered if the right people understand what I meant and also if someone would rectify it. Love it :-) thanks guys. When do you actual think it will be baked in? only the portable version for windows are on .Net Core?
Luke 42085 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 The portable download has already changed to .NET Core, yes. So too have the Emby for ReadyNAS and Emby for Asustor packages. Little by little each operating system is moving over.
Sahne 16 Posted October 13, 2017 Author Posted October 13, 2017 Any pros or cons between installer and portable? I have been personally trialing the portable version i dont seem to have any problem but I do would like to know what you Luke have to say? - Which one would you recommend - why do you offer portable and the online installer - To run as a windows service why was that taken out ( i know you can use third party programs to run it as a service but this was include even back in the mediabrowser days“
Luke 42085 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 The installer doesn't let you pick your install location. It's just a really quick install process designed with as few clicks as possible. The windows service was taken out because of the amount of time it requires spending on windows-specific development. That't not what we want to be spending our time on when it is very easy to use a third party program such as NSSM to turn it into a service.
Sahne 16 Posted October 13, 2017 Author Posted October 13, 2017 Thanks Luke for the clarification. my current emby setup has been running for at least 2 years now without a new install just always upgrading to latest versions. Would you recommend to install the portable installer and not move any settings across like watched content, life tv settings, recording schedules, user data, etc... Basically setup everything from zero. I guess this will also fix my problem with the recordings I can’t seem to be able to delete even thou they don’t exist.
Luke 42085 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 That just depends on whether you want to do a clean install or not. That's up to you.
