darkassassin07 652 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 (edited) Did this feature get removed? When I first installed emby (aprox 4-6mo ago) I remember while setting up my users a setting to prevent access to the users personal settings (password, profile, etc). Today I decided to setup a guest user (a normal user called guest) intended to be hidden from login and locked down to prevent password changes or other settings changes. I dont want to use the built in guest system as it requires emby connect as far as im aware and i want my media server independent of any other servers/third party systems (another reason i dont use the apps anymore, They require verification from a public server to work) I could not find this feature anymore :/ am I missing something? Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 The option is currently no longer available. Not a ideal option but you can hide it from everyone via custom css.
darkassassin07 652 Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 Why was it removed? Css isn't an option if it applies to all users, especially as it only applies to the web app.
Luke 42077 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Because over time those user settings are being blended into the UI as well as being available in the settings area. That means every part of the UI has to enforce it and it's just getting to be too much for it.
darkassassin07 652 Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 Are there any plans to bring it back in any capacity? At least for things like preventing password changes. If you have users that share a single emby user (guests, kids, etc) anyone of them can change the password and lock everyone else out of the account. That can manually be reset, but thats a hassle for someone that just wants to watch something and now has to contact me to let them back in.
Luke 42077 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 i think preventing password changes is something that would make sense. 2
dcook 299 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Just bring back that checkbox so users can't change settings, that way only admin can modify user settings the way it used to be. No reason to remove something that worked well. I don't buy the reason given that it Emby is now more complex so we have to remove that existing option. Doesn't stop you from adding all kinds of other features and changes which you do all the time. All you are doing is making it harder and harder for Emby Administrators to manage their server and users. How long have we been waiting for basic LDAP support? Years? How long for user templates or groups to make user management easier? Years?
Luke 42077 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 We are working as hard as we can to make everyone as happy as possible. Thanks guys.
Soki 9 Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 Prohibiting password resets is MUST have! please....bring back that option ASAP Without this option this software is not save anymore, due to idiots changing a safe password to "nobrain123". please... maximum importante.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 (edited) User policy.xml edit as setting no longer available via UI. Ability to block per user manually from these changes (user icon and password). <EnableUserPreferenceAccess>false</EnableUserPreferenceAccess> Restart server after change. Well just tested and this applies to Stable also. Edited September 26, 2018 by Happy2Play
Luke 42077 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 That's correct, it's no longer used, but it's possible we can add it back for just restricting password and profile image control.

Luke 42077 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 If it's not in the UI then that is because there is a problem with it and thus is not officially supported.
