Starlionblue 82 Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 (edited) Hi. Accidentally labeled an episode as s02e04 of "The Good Place". This hasn't aired yet. Caught the error after a couple of days. Relabeled it correctly as s02e03 and Emby rescanned and all was good. That episode works. However it seems as if Emby has marked s02e04 as "watched" even though the media file doesn't exist (I double-checked). Just to see what happened I tried to play said episode and Emby Theater got stuck with the series backdrop and a circling circle. The only way to get out of it (without having to dig out a mouse and keyboard) was restarting the HTPC with the remote. For some reason Emby has marked all episodes of this show as watched, including the unaired ones. But only for this show. I can unmark them but then I can't individually mark them because detail view for this show (and some others) is gone. I'm confused. Relevant server log is here. You can see the errors towards the end around time 23:04. Edited October 8, 2017 by Starlionblue
Luke 42078 Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 Hi, once you do have that episode just mark it unwatched and i think you will be fine. thanks.
Starlionblue 82 Posted October 8, 2017 Author Posted October 8, 2017 Hi, once you do have that episode just mark it unwatched and i think you will be fine. thanks. Understood thanks. However how do I unmark an individual episode when I can't get into the episode detail view? For that matter, why do some shows have episode detail views while some don't?
Starlionblue 82 Posted October 14, 2017 Author Posted October 14, 2017 Hi again. I'm now having this issue periodically with other shows as well. As soon as there is a disconnect between what Emby Theater displays as existing, and what actually is in the file structure. As mentioned, the issue I'm having is that the only way out of the circle of doom is to restart Emby Theater. Since I don't normally have a mouse and such connected, and the new electron link doesn't act as a shortcut properly (how do I create a shortcut that starts Emby Theater anyway?), the only option is to tell my kids to restart the HTPC. Could there be a timeout if no playback starts (20-30 seconds?) after which Emby dumps you back to the previous view?
Luke 42078 Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 anytime playback fails to start you should be able to just click back and then go play something else.
Starlionblue 82 Posted October 14, 2017 Author Posted October 14, 2017 anytime playback fails to start you should be able to just click back and then go play something else. Doesn't seem to work though. I've tried pause, stop, back It just sits there on spinning circle of doom.
Starlionblue 82 Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 (edited) Hi again. Now Emby Theater is hanging for episodes that DO exist. And sometimes playback just stops mid-episode... And sometimes the sounds is there but the screen goes black. I took a short movie to show you what it looks like. Find that here. It had been doing the circle of doom for about 8 minutes. Server log here. Happened around time 11:33. Edited October 15, 2017 by Starlionblue
Luke 42078 Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Please install the latest version of Emby Theater from the website. Thanks !
Starlionblue 82 Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 That seems to have solved it. My daughter is happy again. Thank you!!!
Starlionblue 82 Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 Same thing happened again. Playback stopped mid episode. I can press "back" and get back to menu but after that trying to play the same episode gives circle of doom, hangs Emby Theater completely, and I have to restart the HTPC to get out the issue. The same episodes play fine on Emby for iPhone.. Server logs here.
Luke 42078 Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 What's interesting is that it's happening with two different video players. first the old version with the directshow player, now the new version with the mpv based player. That tells me this is something you're going to have to solve. It's starting to look to me like some kind of storage I/O problem that's causing some type of stall. 1

I guess it might be time to nuke the HTPC with a new Windows installation, then reinstall Emby Theater. Funny thing: It only seems to happen to my kids. Never happens when I play stuff. Maybe there's something corrupt with some of their shows.
Starlionblue 82 Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 (edited) I think I've narrowed it down to one particular batch of episodes. However even if the problem is in the storage somewhere, it still shouldn't be hanging Emby Theater with no way out.
