daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017 I did a search but didn't find the answers to these questions so hoping someone can provide some info. Should the server watch when new files are added to a folder or do I need to do a scan of my library when I've added a new movie? I added a few movies and left it overnight but nothing was added to the library until I did a forced scan. I had some movies on my unraid server as well as on my local drive. Didn't work for either. Also for Video, Automatic is the default for a lot of the options such as scaling. I'm just wondering how ET decides which scaler to use. Just it just default to the one that takes the least resources or does it run a test to select the best one? Is there a way to tell which one it's using when Automatic is selected?
Guest asrequested Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 In your library settings, do you have real-time monitoring, enabled?
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 8, 2017 Author Posted October 8, 2017 Yes I do. I doublechecked that. How quickly is that supposed to update. Also I noticed that when in ET or even the server when I'm in a...tv show, then select the options for Metadata, scan for new files and changes, it doesn't do anything. I then went to the server, Library, then clicked the individual library and did a rescan but it just said added to queue but after 30min nothing was showing up. I finally did a rescan of all libraries, and that did the trick. Soooo not exactly sure what's the best way to add new files to the library.
Guest asrequested Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 How do you have your libraries set up? What types? What is folder configuration? etc.....
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 (edited) What OS are you installing Emby server on? As some file systems do not work with Real Time Monitoring. **Actually the file system your media resides on. Yes I do. I doublechecked that. How quickly is that supposed to update. Only your log file will tell you what is going on with scans not working. How to Report a Problem Edited October 8, 2017 by Happy2Play
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 8, 2017 Author Posted October 8, 2017 It's an Unraid Server, so based on Linux. On Emby Server, I have the movies library set up as Movies and TV Shows as TV for the folder types. Attached is my server log which I got from the Dashboard. I just noticed that the date is behind one day on my server for some odd reason. But I don't think that would cause any issues. EmbyLOg.txt
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 8, 2017 Author Posted October 8, 2017 (edited) My unraid server date. So the logs will show the 6th but it's actually for the 7th. Edited October 8, 2017 by daniel.bmyer
Luke 42078 Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 check your system clock. we're using a system function to get the current time.
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 9, 2017 Author Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) So I did some testing and was able to determine that new files or folders get recognized after 3hrs. The question is, where is this 3hr delay determined? Is it Emby Server or is it the Unraid Server setup for the docker or is it on the HTPC? The other thing I noticed is that ET doesn't really seem to handle NAS drives that are asleep very well. I tried watching a movie that was a NAS drive that was sleeping. I got the busy signal for quite a long time and nothing happened. I had to exit ET and then go back it. At that point it played. Comparing this to JRiver, it would spin up the drive and start playing within maybe 5 seconds or so. Edited October 9, 2017 by daniel.bmyer
ebr 16178 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 So I did some testing and was able to determine that new files or folders get recognized after 3hrs. The question is, where is this 3hr delay determined? Most likely that happened to be how long it was until the next library scan. You can adjust this schedule yourself in the scheduled tasks section.
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 9, 2017 Author Posted October 9, 2017 Yup, that's what it was. So folder monitoring then still does't appear to be working...
Luke 42078 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Make sure you've turned it on in emby library setup.
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 9, 2017 Author Posted October 9, 2017 As I mentioned earlier in the thread, it is setup for monitoring. It just doesn't work
Luke 42078 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 On Linux I know it depends on inotify being setup. Keep in mind it works with most file systems but not all.
