ausername10 0 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) hello, After researching these forums, I seem to have my emby server mostly running the way I'd like it behind nginx reverse proxy on my remote hosted dedicated server running ubuntu linux. I currently have it set so just my domain name goes directly to the emby login page. I should note that my SSL certificate is actually a cheap one I paid for from namecheap.com. It uses PositiveSSL or COMODO as the certificate authority (I believe). I am able to successfully connect to my server using a web browser on a desktop computer, with the Android app on my phone, and with the iOS app on my ipad. I am able to get the apps to work by changing the host to "https://mydomain.com"and changing the port to "443". I am having one small issue that I am hopeful someone might be able to help me with or point me in the right direction for the answer. The issue relates to my Roku Premiere not being able to connect to my emby server. I tried the same steps mentioned above that worked for other apps and it briefly seemed like it was going to connect, but the Roku just stayed at the "Welcome to Emby" screen that said "Connecting" with a built in animation from the app. I checked the emby server and it showed the user account as being logged in at the dashboard via a Roku Client. However, I couldn't actually connect with the roku to effectively view any content. I am a bit stumped as to how I can troubleshoot this issue. Would anyone have any suggestions of things I can try? Thanks. Edited October 6, 2017 by ausername10
KMBanana 116 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Make sure on the Emby server the "Public https port number" is set to 443 under Expert -> Advanced. In the Emby Server Dashboard make sure the "Remote (WAN) access" is https://mydomain.com:443 To connect a Roku device I actually needed to set the port on the Roku to 00000 before it would work, but I don't think that's your issue if you see it connecting on the server dashboard.
Luke 42078 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I wonder if your Roku is not accepting the ssl cert.
ausername10 0 Posted October 7, 2017 Author Posted October 7, 2017 Thanks for the replies. I tried changing to public port to 443 and that seemed to fix it. I am able to browse and play content from my remote emby server! I am not sure if this may be part of the same issue, but would anyone happen to know if running a reverse proxy prevent a user from being able to cast media? I often will browse stuff on my pc and create a playlist of things I would like to watch. In the past, if I click the cast icon, and selected my Roku device, pushing play in my browser window would start playback on my TV through the Roku. I gave these steps a try, but the user interface in the browser tab becomes very unresponsive after I am connected to the Roku via cast icon. The play button does not do anything if I try to play from a playlist or via a movie / tv show directly. I am not sure what to make of this, but has anyone come across a similar issue? Thanks!
