BBT Short Recording. Why? HELP

Recommended Posts

Again, a problem with my Big Bang Theory recording.

Log attached. Should have been 36 minutes (30 mins with 3 mins front and back padding) starting at 7:;57 pm. Recording is actually 28 minutes.  What gives?

Some notes: I've updated my system this week to the latest server; I was one revision behind until then. Also, when watching live TV in Emby I sometimes see glitches that do not show when I watch using HDHRun player; I suspect this is at the root of things, but my thread on the subject hasn't gotten much interest.

Please help. Thanks.

Marc

And the recording ffmpeg log? it looks like at some point ffmpeg raised an error during the recording process, so that explains it.

oops.  where will i find that log?  In the emby server logs folder I see just a record transcode log from a later recording.

In the same folder as your regular logs folder. If this was several days ago the server may have deleted it by now.

What if you try turning the recording conversion feature off?

Ok will turn off recording conversion. May actually have done it after updating server.

Thank you Luke. Let's see how it goes.

Any chance you can review my other thread about encoding settings from hdhomerun to playback? It may have some bearing on this.

Always I appreciate your help. Don't know how you stay on top of all this!

Hi @@Luke and others,

I have a bit more insight now. I played the ~28 minute recording and it was fine, starting about 8 minutes into the recording (which in practice meant just a minute or two into the main part of the show, following the 3 minute buffer, short intro sequence, then long stretch of commercials). But there was another file in the folder, containing the first 8 minutes, too. So, Emby recorded 8 minutes (I watched through it, fine, no glitches), then it ends abruptly. The other file, 28 minutes long, starts picking up the stream moments after the first one ended. No glitches.

I've got no idea why it was split like this, but at least I know the recording did actually start on time (and ended on time).

I've disabled the "automatically convert into a streaming-friendly format" option. Presumably this barfed for some reason resulting in the two output files.

I'll be paying attention to future recordings and will report if the problem crops up again, with the auto convert off.

Thanks for the info.

Just a short note of "so far, so good." Several recordings have occurred without being improperly split, saved as filename.ts files (as opposed to the filename.mkv that were saved when the auto-convert was enabled). I haven't had a chance to watch them all to check for glitches, but wanted to report that so far things are good.
