daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 (edited) I finally got the Server and ET installed and all setup with my libraries. I'm watching movies on my HTPC with is wired to my router as it my server. So there shouldn't be any transcoding. I tried playing some movies. Initially they played fine. Watched a movie, then shutdown. Today I tried the same movie and it's stuttering. I haven't made any changes. I never had this time of problem with JRiver with Red October High Quality. Same for Kodi. As well, I ran into another problem. If I watch a trailer, which seems to be on youtube, when I try to watch a movie afterwards, all within ET, the screen remains black but sound plays. All movies are full blu ray remuxes with HD audio mkv files. My system is as follows Intel Core i5- 25000K CPU 3.3 GHZ 8GB RAM Windows 10 64bit HD 3000 Are there any guides on how to set up ET or is there some logs I can provide? Are there any guides on how to set up ET. My system is Edited October 5, 2017 by daniel.bmyer
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 5, 2017 Author Posted October 5, 2017 I tried watching a download of Bing Bang Theory and it was stuttering. Switched to playing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and the screen remained black but sound played.... Very frustrating!
Guest asrequested Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Can you post a screenshot of your settings in Theater?
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 How do I do that? Do you just mean a screenshot of the Video section?
Luke 42078 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I would suggest turning audio passthrough back on since your audio equipment supports it.
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 Here you go....if this is what you meant
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) I tried both with Audio passthrough and without. Didn't make any difference. Oh and I have the MadVR Option checked. Although I tried unchecking it and it didn't do anything Edited October 6, 2017 by daniel.bmyer
Luke 42078 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I would keep madvr unchecked. Sorry but we're talking about two completely different video players here when you enable or disable madvr. If you are seeing stuttering with both then there is almost certainly some kind of environmental problem occurring on your system.
Guest asrequested Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Let's be methodical. I agree with Luke, don't use MadVR, enable all audio passthrough. Test! Look at stats for nerds, is it direct playing? Report results
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 Ok, so I unchecked madvr, then rebooted and tried again. This time my movies played back smoothly. Seems odd though that Kodi and JRiver play back fine with Madvr. So does the Video settings I select work even if I do not have Madvr checked? I'm a little confused on that. So in Video if I have Lanzos for scaling, it will still apply even if Madvr is unchecked?
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 So far two movies seem to be playing without stuttering...I've enabled passthrough and yes it's direct play
Luke 42078 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Yes using a different video player. The default which is mpv. If I had to guess I think you've probably over customized a little bit.

That is configured in the MadVR UI.
daniel.bmyer 11 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 Where's the madvr ui? How do I access that?
Guest asrequested Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) Where's the madvr ui? How do I access that? The easiest way is to enable MadVR, play something and then use the MadVR icon in the system tray Edited October 6, 2017 by Doofus

Imho, that's about the best MadVR settings you can get with this GPU: In MadVR GUI: Devices -> display mode -> switch to match display : disable Devices -> display mode -> list all display modes : (empty) Scaling algorithms -> chroma upscaling -> bicubic Scaling algorithms -> image upscaling -> processing done by gpu : bilinear Rendering -> General Setting -> Enable automatic fullscreen exclusive mode : disable Enable windowed overlay : enable Edited October 6, 2017 by stettler
