iamspartacus 40 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 (edited) Being a recent Plex convert, one of the biggest challenges I've had with Emby since switching is the inability to see Recently Added TV episodes on my Shield TV. The closest thing to this seems to be the "Upcoming" tab but it's not nearly as intuitive as simply showing me the most recently added episodes. I tried just going to Shows and then arranging by Date Added but not only does that not arrange by the last added episode, it still requires that you go into the Show > Season > Episodes. How does one easily browse through the most recently added episodes? Edited October 5, 2017 by iamspartacus
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 The "Home screen" in the web app can be configured with different rows displayed and ordered. One of the rows available is "Recent Media." I think that should give you what you want. When on the home screen click on the three bars in the upper left and then choose settings and then Home screen to get to the choices. I also think the clients, at least Fire, Shield and Roku can display "Recent media" in some way. I do not remember exactly the details on the clients because except for "Next up TV" the first thing I looked for was how to turn all the rows of clutter off. Once that was found I really have not looked back.

I just want to be able to go straight to the latest episode without having to do so much navigation.
Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 So under latest TV you don't want them grouped by series?
iamspartacus 40 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 I do when I go to "Shows" but not when I go to Recent Media or ideally Recently added episodes. In Plex when you go to TV library you can view by Show or by episode and then sort by all sorts of values. It really makes things easy. 95% of the time I'm going to my TV library I'm just looking for one of the last 10 or so added episodes and don't want to have to navigate though the full series/season to get to it.
iamspartacus 40 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 I just realized that the Web and Android app have a "Latest" episodes section which is exactly what I'm looking for. But there is no such section in the Android TV app. Any reason why? I'll have to check the Roku app as well as that's what most of my family members use and they are going to be lost without this section.
Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 What section in the web app are you referring to exactly?
iamspartacus 40 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 What section in the web app are you referring to exactly? Trying to attach a screenshot but it's either telling me I can't use the file extension (tried jpg, bmp, and png) or it's just refreshing the page and not posting my reply.
Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Do you mean the Latest tab under the TV section?
iamspartacus 40 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 Do you mean the Latest tab under the TV section? Yes.
Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Ok that groups them by series though. I thought you didn't want that?
iamspartacus 40 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) Ok that groups them by series though. I thought you didn't want that? In the web app and Android Mobile app it doesn't group them by series. See below image link. But in the Android TV app it does group them by series. https://i.imgur.com/Tq9fctb.jpg Edited October 6, 2017 by iamspartacus
Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 That is grouped by series because you have to click the series image, no?
iamspartacus 40 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 That is grouped by series because you have to click the series image, no? Click the link again, posted the full screen shot. You'll see it has the actual episode there. And when I click on that it goes directly to that exact episode, not the series.
Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Yes ok you're right, but that's because you only have one episode from each series. if you add another gotham episode they will be grouped.

What do you mean I only have one episode? I have the entire series. This is what the next screen looks like when I click on that Gotham episode. https://i.imgur.com/2Lb1Vwo.jpg Edited October 6, 2017 by iamspartacus
Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 but they are not all in your latest screen. so if you add multiple at the same time, it will likely be grouped.

I get that, but all I'm concerned about is seeing the "latest" episodes. So each day I go into Latest, I want to see the latest episodes that were added that night and/or the previous night. If "Latest" was populated based on air date, we'd be golden. Edited October 6, 2017 by iamspartacus
Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 well then you can just go to the episodes tab and sort them. air date is not latest. latest is latest added to library.

Is there an Episodes tab in the Android TV app? I'll have to confirm this when I get home. Also, I'd have to sort by date added in descending order (just confirmed this in the Web app). In the Android app I don't recall a way to change the sort order from ascending to descending.

Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 The Episodes tab is your entire episodes library. In generally we don't really like it. We're just having a hard time removing it from the web app without a small uprising. I think the best option would be a small grouping toggle at the top of the Latest tab.

The latest tab works great because it has the last 30 episodes that were added which is pretty much one week of TV episodes. The problem is (and I'll confirm this when I get home), I don't recall seeing this in the Android TV app. If it is there, it's definitely grouping the whole series of episodes together unlike it is in the web app. But I do like the episodes tab if I can organize by data added descending (not possible in Android TV). Luke 42077 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 In android tv it is merged with the suggestions tab.
iamspartacus 40 Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) In android tv it is merged with the suggestions tab. I see that. Unfortunately without being able to import mine and my users' watch status from Plex, that section is completely useless because every suggestion leads to the series and next up is episode 1 as if they've never watched a single episode of any show.
