Creating library with media files from another PC

I'm wondering if I can have Emby Server add a library with the contents from a shared drive from another computer. I have a pc where I store some temp video files.  I'd like to create a library on the server that points to this drive.  I've shared the drive and made sure the user everyone has full access to the shared drive.

On the server when I put in the path to the drive, Emby keeps telling me to make sure Emby Server has write access to the drive.

Somewhere I'm missing something I think.  Do I need to create a user called Emby Server?  I'm a little unsure...

My pc has a share called \\DANIEL-HTPC\HTPC_Media  - I did a test copy from another laptop and was able to copy a file to that share so I know it has read/write....

If I can get this working, I think I'm all good to go.  Only thing missing is a plugin for Spotify and a weather plugin...

Hi, where did you enter this exactly?

Also, are you running Emby as a service?  If so, you will have to configure permissions properly for the service.

Sorry I'm a little unclear on this.  I have Emby Server installed on my Linux Unraid Server (NAS).  I have ET installed on my HTPC which also happens to have the drive share I would like to add to a library.

@@Luke, I went to the web server url on my unraid server and from there clicked Add LIbrary, then from there tried to access the shared drive from my HTPC.

That's where I am now...so not sure what exactly I need to do.  Is there any documentation on this?

And you have the drive mounted on your linux box?  If so, Which protocol?  Can you cd to the drive on your linux box and ls the contents?  What permissions do you have set for the mountpoint?

Ok, so I have to go to my unraid server and create an SMB share to the shared drive and mount it?  I was looking at that but not sure if that's what was needed. If I do that, it doesn't do any harm to my shared drive does it?  I'd hate to have the files killed that are on it...

Yes, you have to mount the drive on your Emby server, and point Emby to it when you specify your libraries.  And no, mounting a drive will not harm your files.  Just make sure you have the correct permissions set up once it's mounted.

How exactly do I set the permissions for the drive?  Not quite clear on that...
