adzam 0 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Hello, I recently decided to give emby a try. I have a large collection of home videos so I started with that library. I like the way emby organized these videos exactly how I have my directory structure and I was able to add images within emby to replace the colorful folder names. I added people who are in a video as actors. If I click on one of these actors, either within the video overview page or by searching, it will bring me to their profile page, but not show me any videos they are in. Is this normal? Speaking of the actors profile page, there is a bug with the birthdays. After saving a birthday it shows it as a day earlier on the profile page. I also added tags to the videos. I thought this would be great for searching. I was wrong. Apparently you cannot search by tag? Lastly, I am not liking lack of preview thumbnails to go to a specific point in a video. I have chapter thumbnails enabled, and I like the previews they give you in the video overview screen, but these are not particularly helpful to find a point i a video. I am using the web app. From what I have read, this feature seems to be app specific? I really want to like emby, hopefully someone can chime in and tell me I'm doing something wrong!
ebr 16199 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Hi and welcome! We don't currently search for home videos with actors in them because this would be extremely uncommon. Searching by tags is a feature we plan to implement in the future. As for preview thumbs any more often than the chapter marks, yes, this is app specific. It is possible with Roku (using a plug-in) and on the Apple TV if the media is compatible with it (.mp4).
adzam 0 Posted October 4, 2017 Author Posted October 4, 2017 Thank you for your quick reply! Would searching by actor work if I re-created the library as movies instead of home videos? Thanks again!
ebr 16199 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Yes, but I imagine that will create a bunch of other problems like mis-identifying things and sending all the metadata searchers in a tizzy looking for metadata.

Wouldn't unchecking "Download artwork and metadata from the internet" prevent this?
ebr 16199 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Wouldn't unchecking "Download artwork and metadata from the internet" prevent this? Yes, I forgot we had that option at the library level now so you could try that. I would also be sure to check to save metadata with the media so that your custom edits will not be lost in the event of a system re-install etc.
