WinTV Quad tuner

I am new to your software. I am currently running Plex and using it to record. The Live TV in Plex is taking forever to get onto Roku and they are still suffering from a bug that makes recordings crash. I currently use MythTV for streaming live TV through the house and I occasionally use it to record shows as well (MythTV and Plex do not share the tuners well so if I'm watching Live TV then I have to use MythTV to record or Plex will not record the show.) The biggest problem using MythTV to record is the naming structure is crap and I have to go into each day and rename them to get them to show up in Plex or Emby. I set an Emby server up this weekend for testing and it seems like it will work rather nicely. I am thinking of setting it up on my actual server machine but want to know if it supports my tuners natively or not. I would prefer an all in one solution. I am using Linux Mint on all machines that I have in my network there is and will not be any Windows systems on my network. I would like to use Roku as my front end as I have a Roku TV and three other Roku boxes throughout the house. Currently for live TV I am using a RPi 3 running OSMC (Kodi 17.4) and running it through the MythTV plug in. So if Emby will support my Haupauge WinTV Quad tuners I would love some setup help or even a way to make MythTV work with Emby would be helpful... TIA

Hi.  The Live TV Wiki details the tuners we support and how.  We do not directly support that tuner right now but probably would via one of the plug-in solutions.

Is there a chance of you making the tuner work in the future for the built in Live TV? Like I said I am looking for an all in one solution and Plex is slipping... This would be a good time for you folks here at Emby to step it up and take over the world! I'd gladly pay the yearly or even lifetime fee for this functionality. I know you're open source and things move a little slower as you have to wait on people to help, I am in no way a programmer but I have a test system that I can and will help test things out.

I don't have experience with MythTV, but the Tuner should work as long as you use the NextPVR plugin.

There is a discussion and some suggestions on how to get things working if you search for the topic

Emby Live TV With Win TV Quad Tuner

This would be my solution if I used a Windows machine. I am using Linux Mint (Ubuntu 16.04) and NextPVR is only a windows application.

What about TVHeadend? It's Linux and there's a Kodi addon and an Emby plugin...

I'll give it a try. Do you have any experience with it?

Not sure how long you have been "reading" Luke's posts but that that transaltes too.

"Yes we would like to do it but it is not going to be anytime soon"

I know we all like to reuse our existing hardware BUT you would be far better just getting a couple of HDHRs which work very well NOW.

This hardware is certainly not old and I have at least two programs that are utilizing it for the most part just fine. Plex has an issue with recordings that can be solved by re-booting every 3 or 4 days and in MythTV it just runs perfect. Again with MythTV I have to re-name things to get it feeding Plex or Emby but That's worth the pain in the  butt compared to the cost of HDHRs to me... Again I was hoping to find an all in one solution that was not as corporate leaning as Plex is becoming. Emby seems really nice and I am going to try the TV headend work around but I need ease of use for the Wife and kids too.

Gotta echo Mark. If support for tuner cards is implemented in the next year I will eat my (bacon) hat. We’re not trying to inflame, just point you to the best solution. Npvr seems to be best supported as an external service but the others seem to have significant shortcomings. I have a perfectly working media portal install working from 2 quad dvbs2 cards but I’ve practically given up on it and started using iptv because it is more reliable

Like I said the hardware is not old. I did manage to get TVHeadend installed and running and working through the Emby app. So far so good but still an issue with the way that it saves recording names. I believe that is something that I can fix on the TVHeadend. I set the whole thing up and running in about 30 min. so I may have missed something.
