teiva 18 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Server: 3.2.32 Android / Nvidia shield (Andriod TV) / Chrome web browser By default my android tv app has it set to "auto." Some movies are streaming at 80Mbps which causes the movie to stutter every 5 seconds. Odd enough my android phone also defaults to 80Mbps. Some movies can handle 80Mbps others cannot. Live tv channels are defaulted to 120Mbps. Has something changed with the auto-detect quality? Where do I change the default quality for all the movies per device?
Luke 42077 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 When you are inside your home network most people want to avoid transcoding, so that is why the Auto setting will produce a max value. When you are outside your home network then it will be much smaller.
teiva 18 Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 (edited) ...so you're saying auto just sets the max value as opposed to detecting the highest quality under the condition that a steady % of pre-buffer is maintained. Would this be difficult to implement? I would love to get to a state where someone in my home could just hit play and videos would stream without my wife or mother in-law having to fiddle with the playback correction and/or quality settings. Luke 42077 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 it's a possibility for the future. in the meantime all you should need to go is go grab their devices and pre-configure a suitable streaming quality.
