EMBY Theater (Desktop) 2.8.6 constant MS Visual C++ installing?

Not sure when the update to 2.8.6 was pushed out, but now my EMBY theater doesn't play content and when it starts it tries to run the following

I've tried Repair.  No success.  I've tried close, no success.   I've uninstalled EMBY Theater and reinstall, no success.  I've tried running EMBY Theater as Administrator, no success.

There were, to my knowledge, no other changes to my media PC prior or during this time.

It also doesn't exit properly and has to be killed off in Task Manager.  This is the device that is running the EMBY server.

As a last resort, I even tried to install the Windows Store version.  But it seems to fail to see it's connected to a Premiere EMBY server and wont play any content due to restrictions??   I'm sure I don't have that same issue on remote clients using the Win Store app.

I've just tried the repair once again, and noticed it's installing a different version than the dialog box? 12.0.21005 ?  Now it's trying to install 14.0.23026?  Without success.

Okay which version do I need to run Theater?  Two have installed today it seems.

Hi i am experiencing the same issue, it only started in the past couple of days. I have tried to uninstall the current c++ 2015 package (14.xxx) and downloaded the latest, no change the message still comes up when ET launches.

I uninstalled ET and installed again the issue is still there.

Running ET 2.8.6 on  Win 7 pro N on a I3 NUC pointing to Emby server latest version.

I have attached screen shots and logs from today.I also had what Rumbaar had seen where it then tried to install Ver 12 after the pc rebooted and ET opened.

Let me know if you need anymore happy to help troubleshoot.

Thanks

I downloaded and installed over the current installation from the website.  It still asks to repair the 12.0.30501(12.0.23026) each time it starts.  But it plays the media once I do that and progress into the application.

Should I do something, like full uninstall the application and the C++ distribution?

It also hasn't been an issue on other machines in my network that has ET installed on.  I even fresh installed onto a new laptop and that hasn't been an issue.  Only my main media machine.

Same here downloaded 2.8.8 and it still wanted to install ver 12 even though ver 14 was on the system.

Tried to uninstall both verions of c++ 12 and 14 but it simply wanted to reinstall both after a reboot.

Let me know if you need more logs or screen shots.

Thanks for your help.

Having same issue. I was in the process of setting up Flirc in a VM. This issue is happening on a VM machine that I only have Emby Theater on; the other HTPC with the server + theater component does not seem to have the issue. On 2.8.8. It wants to install v12 over and over, and if I close Emby Theater before installing the runtime, it fails to terminate the Emby Theater process.

Oddly, I have this happen on two of my machines, but not the third

I'm just going to remove it because i don't think the app actually needs it. Electron embeds the runtime. I believe mpv does as well but I haven't found confirmation of that yet. But I'm pretty sure it does.

The only question is the directshow player for madvr, however that is off by default and only serves a small audience. If something is required we can just indicate that on-screen when they enable it and make the user handle it.

Remember to clear C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Theater\cache\temp, too. It's been creating new files every time it tries to reinstall this.

With my main server it already installs both runtime installations. But will that effect it's shutdown issues too.

Xilex, I tried deleting that folder contents too. But it just re-download the file on its own. Hopefully the fix to electron and it's pin to taskbar will be addressed soon too, as that has affected my shortcut remote run option.

I've posted 2.8.9. You'll have to grab it from the website. Thanks.

Still getting it. I cleared the cache, too. Maybe a clean install?

A clean install did not resolve it

Just downloaded 2.9.0 and the problem is still there. Is there something locally you want me to check, do ?

Looks like 2.9.2 fixed it! Thanks Luke! (latest download direct from the website)

Same here 2.9.2 has resolved the issue. Thanks for your efforts.

I think it's fixed on affected PC, as users have been able to use the application without issue.

Is there a way to lock down the app from auto-updating?  I'd like to be able to sit at a stable version, and not have to worry about these kind of things until something goes wrong and I can manually trigger and update to see if it resolves any issue.

I feel like we're past the point of really helping folks on this thread but there is one more way to fix this problem.  Simply take note of which versions of MS Visual C++ are throwing the error when you start Emby Theater.  In my case it was 2015 and 2013.  I remembered seeing this before on another system/application and the fix was to install the x86 version of C++ that was repeatedly trying to install.  So after searching for and installing the 2013 and 2015 x86 C++ redist files all is working just fine with 2.8.6. I have no idea why that works. Now I will upgrade to 2.9.2.  :)

Thanks for the info.

To fix mine I had to install x86 C++ 2015.  Then I had to download 2.9.2 from the site.  The first install attempt failed until I removed the existing system.old folder from the install directory

Mine was doing this too. I installed the x86 C++ 2013 and it stopped.
