mbc0 68 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Hi, I have a large Motorsport collection and would like to have custom thumbnails for all the races as so not to give away spoilers. My structure is below & I can set custom pictures for the folders but not a custom picture for all the races (in my case a chequered flag) Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Many Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Why do you think you can't set custom images?
mbc0 68 Posted September 29, 2017 Author Posted September 29, 2017 Why do you think you can't set custom images? Because I cannot work out how to do it :-D Here is my root of my Motorsport library, I am just concentrating on the BTCC for now... you can see the pictures are what I have set them to for the BTCC & I have set the first round picture for Brands Hatch but when you select Brands Hatch my problems start. All the media-names are the same (BTCC) instead of what they are actually called (Build Up, Race1, Race2, Race3) and I can change each individual thumbnail (like I have done on the 4th one in the picture) but despite setting thumbnails to be the chequered flags I end up with snapshots... I am sure I am doing/not doing something stupid but I cannot get it to work?
Luke 42077 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 can you show the complete folder structure? what content type did you select for these when setting up your emby library? (hopefully home videos).

mbc0 68 Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 Does my folder structure show any clues?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Not sure I follow but I was able to update custom images at each level/item. It is a lot of work but can be done.
Luke 42077 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 when you use the UI to assign a custom image to a folder, where does it get saved? have you enabled saving to local media folders?
mbc0 68 Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 It gets save to the default location that way I can keep my media on mechanical drives and all artwork etc on SSD
Luke 42077 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Are you trying to say that this works initially but then later after a library scan your custom image is gone? As a test, try allowing it to save in media folders and see if that makes any difference.

I have created a test folder as movies and another of home videos and the result is the same, it generates a snapshot of the video for the thumbnail.
Luke 42077 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 are you trying to set the image on the video or the parent folder?
mbc0 68 Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 If you look on Post #3 The folders are not an issue as I can customize them no problem, what I want to do is use a custom thumbnail (also in post #3) like the one on the right hand side (chequered flags) I am trying to get Emby to use the custom chequered flags instead of a video snapshot spoiler of the video files themselves.
mbc0 68 Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 I am able to manually change each icon but obviously that would take years with the thousands of files I have and also for new files they contain spoilers. Coming from Plex I could set the thumbnails to be whatever I wanted when a new file was added to the folder, I am trying to achieve the same. The annoying thing is that I used to do this in Mediabrowser before I went to Plex and had to get a Plugin to be able to do it in Plex!
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 (edited) Episode thumbs are grabbed and saved by episode name so there is no way to set a default episode thumb. Folder level is easy, copy the poster.jpg into each folder level. If you really don't want images disaable screengrabber. Dashboard-Library-Metadata-use content type drop-down Home Videos and Photos Edited October 2, 2017 by Happy2Play

Dashboard-Library-Metadata-use content type drop-down Home Videos and Photos But I can only do that globally? I don't want to turn the screengrabber off for all my libraries, just the sport ones.. I used to have a solution for this years ago, I will keep looking through old posts to see if I can find it Edited October 2, 2017 by mbc0
mbc0 68 Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 Just to give you an example of the issues I am facing with this, I have 2 problems with using Emby for sport collections, please look at the screenshot below for this years collection of F1 Races 1, you can clearly see the spoilers from the images automatically created 2, Everything is called Formula1?? as you can see from my folder structure each file is labelled by the event location? Do you think I will be able to achieve my huge motorsport collection without spoilers and being able to see the correct names of each file? Cheers
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I don't know how you are getting everything with same name as I can not reproduce this, replicating your structure from screenshots. I will have to test without saving with media as I see no issue currently.

mbc0 68 Posted October 3, 2017 Author Posted October 3, 2017 I have tried every combination I can think of and cannot get past even 1 of the 2 issues I face... 1, Spoiler thumbnails being created 2, being able to see the names of my media as Emby calls all media the same name I was sure I found a way around this years ago before I went to Plex but have found that after some searching the problem was unresolvable back in early 2015 https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/18549-still-having-problems-with-unset-mixed-content-libraries/ so would I be correct in assuming that as this issue has not moved on since back then it is unlikely to be resolved? I would love to make the full switch back to Emby but I will have to try something else if not as it is too important to me to have my motorsport accessible. Many Thanks
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Can you show a screenshbot of what is shown into Edit Info of one of those same named items. Is there embedded metadata? Do you have this option enabled on the library? Prefer embedded titles over filenames This determines the default display title when no internet metadata or local metadata is available.
mbc0 68 Posted October 3, 2017 Author Posted October 3, 2017 Hi, I have tried test libraries with that enabled and disabled with the same results unfortunately :-(
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Can you show a screenshbot of what is shown into Edit Info of one of those same named items.
mbc0 68 Posted October 5, 2017 Author Posted October 5, 2017 Can you show a screenshbot of what is shown into Edit Info of one of those same named items. Sure, please see below
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 (edited) Okay everything is being named the same do to the parser stopping at the year in file name. It is providing a image for the filename not Display name/Title when uploaded .So editing one item is not providing a image for say everything named "WRT" ot "BTCC". There is no way around custom images for each episode as they are individual items with different names. Edited October 5, 2017 by Happy2Play
