AndyRG383 0 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Hi there, I am looking of moving over to Emby from Kodi as Kodi is been a pain at the minute trying to stream my music collection from my PC to another device in the house. The question I would like to know is like Kodi does Emby pick up the information from Artist.nfo & Album.nfo which contains my artist bio & album review information without having to manually copy and paste all the information across like I would have had to have done if I was using say Plex (one main reason why I did not go that app as I have in excess of 6000+ albums on my pc which is going to act as a server.). I am hoping Emby will do this and pre populate the relevant fields with the artist bio and Albums reviews from my nfo files as kodi does as will then be looking to use Emby on a permant basis. Hope that makes sense to people!!! Thanks
Happy2Play 9782 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I don't know anything about Kodi but when you add your Music Library to Emby Server.it will read existing metadata and images. Have a look at the Music Wiki. @@Angelblue05
Angelblue05 4132 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 It will import the data as it is detected on your server to every device that has emby for kodi installed on. Report back if it's not the case.
AndyRG383 0 Posted September 27, 2017 Author Posted September 27, 2017 Happy2Play & Angelblue05, Thanks for the answers, will give it a try. So by what your saying is Emby should just pick the nfo file and read and transfer the info accordingly. Do the nfo files need to be named in a specfic way or in any different folders apart from Artist/Album at all as well. Thanks

Note any artist without information in there folder will be generated in *\emby-server\metadata\artists. Also Emby reads the embedded information of each track so if your Tags are not correct you may see issues and duplications do to different case in tags. Personally I would add just a artist or two with a couple albums to see how it goes.
AndyRG383 0 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) Hi Happy2Play, I have done a full library scan over night but has not picked up anything from the nfo files in fact it has over-written the album nfo with the track info for each album which i had not ticked for it to overwrite anything but still seems to have done so. The artist.nfo files have remained intact with the info in I wanted but this has not transfered across to Emby, not sure why it has done this at all. Thanks Edited September 28, 2017 by AndyRG383
AndyRG383 0 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 Hi There, Just giving this a hoof as still having no luck with the nfo files for music album & artists showing up in emby after a library scan, as would like to try and get this resolved, must be something easy i am missing here. Thanks
Happy2Play 9782 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 How about specific examples and screenshots of your issue. What is your Music folder structure?
AndyRG383 0 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) Hi there, my music folder structure is as follows: C://Users/Name/Music/ HD Music/A/Aerosmith/1989 - Pump/ What screenshots you after can take a screenshot of emby showing the overview tag is blank etc.. I have attached a example of how my artist.nfo & album.nfo are set up Edit for somereason would not let me upload the album.nfo for some reason Artist.nfo Edited September 28, 2017 by AndyRG383
Happy2Play 9782 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 And what path is used when you setup the Music Library? My bet is the addition structure affects how Emby is reading this information.
AndyRG383 0 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 Hi, When I set up the music library I have just picked the folder option i never set a path and added the music that way.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) So in your example you will get mixed result unless you use "C://Users/Name/Music/ HD Music/A" as a folder path for Music. As shown in the wiki, Emby is very particular of Music structure. Edited September 28, 2017 by Happy2Play
AndyRG383 0 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 Hi, ahhh right I thought it would just pick up the path automatically when i selected the folder where the music is stored as under folder letters in alphabetical order.
Luke 42080 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 What info from album.nfo wasn't picked up?
AndyRG383 0 Posted September 29, 2017 Author Posted September 29, 2017 (edited) Hi Luke, It is not picking anything up from the Artist or Album nfo at all, like the artist bio or the album review that is in the relevant nfo file. I have used the network path when setting up a test library and drilled down to a more exact path but still does not wish to play ball at all. Plus I have noticed Emby keeps over-writing the Album.nfo file, that is in my album directory as well even though it is set up not to override any metedata information. Happy2Play 9782 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 @@Luke I noticed that the posted nfo files don't contain "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?> and has some different tags". Don't know if it matters, but could it be a compatibility issue? @@AndyRG383 Plus I have noticed Emby keeps over-writing the Album.nfo file, that is in my album directory as well even though it is set up not to override any metedata information. You could disable "Download artwork and metadata from the internet" on your music library while testing. Dashboard-Library-click on the library to open options.

This is normal because for Emby, album information is generally derived from the songs + album level metadata. For instance, the genres and artists for an album are simply aggregated from the songs it contains.

I've been moving my music over today and for some custom libraries I had Downloaded unchecked and it was still making trips to which over onlineDB to get artwork for the artists. I had to kill everything in Library->Metadata related to artists to get it to stop. Edited October 3, 2017 by randomevents
Luke 42080 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 We'd have to look at some specific examples, thanks.
