dcook 299 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 For better performance you should store you meta data on a local SSD What needs to be added is a way to tell Emby which librarys to scan, right now its all or nothing and that is a big issue. My Movie and Music Library does not change much but my TV library changes every day, so why do I need to scan Movies and Music every day several times a day just to make Emby pick up new content in my TV Library?

Have you tried going to the Library section, and clicking the three dot menu button under one of the libraries? There's a "Scan library" option that allows you to scan just that library. You can even queue up a few one after another if you like. Edited October 4, 2017 by AdrianW
dcook 299 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Yes but that is only works if you manually want to start a scan. I was referring to the scheduled tasks, there is currently no way to have a scheduled scan library task for 1 specific library. Its all or nothing. Unless like you said I have to login to my Emby Server 2 or 3 times a day and click on the three dots and click on Scan library. But really I should not have to do that, as that is why there are scheduled tasks. Have you tried going to the Library section, and clicking the three dot menu button under one of the libraries? But really I should not have to do that, as that is why there are scheduled tasks. You're right of course, it would make sense to have scheduled scans for specified libraries. I use Emby differently though, I don't have the scan scheduled at all. And I just manually trigger it whenever I've added new content (which is less than 2 or 3 times a day).
dcook 299 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 I try to automate as much as I can, ideally I would never have to login to Emby at all, I would just turn on my TV and the content is there on my Roku Being able to schedule specific libraries instead of all or none would be great, as I have everything else automated. Right now what I have setup is all my new content is put into a library called NEW which I have enabled real time monitoring on, that is the only work around I have found for this issue. When I am done watching then I have to manually move the content into the correct folders in my media storage.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 (edited) How long does your Library Scan take? I guess it depends on your setup and library content type, but my Large server (38TB) does a Library Scan in under 4 minute and small server (18TB) in just under 2 minute. dcook 299 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Hence why I would like more control over the scan library scheduled task
Jdiesel 1431 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 How large is your library? What filesystem? 1
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Hence why I would like more control over the scan library scheduled task But at the same time why is taking so long to scan?
dcook 299 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 (edited) That is about 3TB of data and its using GFS, so I don't expect it to be as fast as local storage, I don't mind it taking that long because its scanning everything. If I run a scan on TV library manually it takes about 35 minutes so that is much better. Just the fact that I can't schedule specific libraries with the automated task is the issue. Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 There is the commandline option you can automate. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/50862-trigger-a-library-rescan-via-cmd-line/?p=487759
jaquestati 45 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 yea i've pretty much given up on it and went back to plex... there must be some issue with having 40 or 50tb plus on gdrive and emby.i've tried two different servers and redone them from scratch twice... always with the same result.initial scans took like days and days... but even scans after adding a couple hundred new items take a minimum of 7 hours (?!)and that's kinda the least of the problems.... just trying to open a library usually fails... the green circle will just circle forever... or if it does open, then playing something fails.and when the scans are FINALLY done emby has matched like 20% of my stuff versus 90 plus for plex (no i don't follow the naming conventions i dont have time to be renaming all this stuff... and filebot etc isn't an option in my setup.) somehow plex is much looser and better at matching things that dont fit the recommended naming convention but are just common sense.plex scans in just a couple minutes and ive never had any lag or problems... my servers are plenty fast (10000 passmark and 16gb of ram)all i can guess is it has to do with the metadata? (and i cant have it stored with the media because my gdrive mounts have to be read only)i'd love to switch over to emby... the live tv/iptv is much better than plex, i love the mixed content libraries, the joining of shows across libraries and most of all the ability to play dvds/video_ts..and i'll check back every few builds.. but i'm starting to lose hope.
Luke 42077 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 @@jaquestati, please open a new topic and discuss some specific matching examples and we will look at what improvements we can make. thanks. 1

And individual library scan would help your situation how? Without change on your side the process is still the same.
dcook 299 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 I don't have any of those issues. The only issue I have with GFS is the very slow library scan, everything else works fine. Without change on your side the process is still the same. i didn't say anything about individual library scan did i? though coincidentally.. just out of curiosity... as i type... i'm running an individual library scan of my TV library... which was last fully scanned like a week ago... curious as to how long it takes.
AdrianW 1058 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) Do you have "extract chapter images during library scan" checked? That can significantly slow down scans. -edit- Ignore me, I just noticed someone else asked the same question earlier. Edited October 6, 2017 by AdrianW
