Luke 42079 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Hi there @@Audiolivesolutions, we work very hard on Emby and we thank you for your support.
arrbee99 1815 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I know its an old chestnut, but really don't see any harm in a weeks trial for this stuff, think it's much more likely to lure people in. 1
Sammy 790 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 And can Plex be used for free? I think not. Some people just want free stuff all the time. The developers here work very hard and support this product way more than most software products. 1
bluemonkey07 590 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 The OPs issue is more that they have no option to try before you buy, i dont think that is an unreasonable wish
maegibbons 1287 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 (edited) Nor is shelling out $4.99 for a months trial unreasonable. Krs Mark Edited September 26, 2017 by maegibbons 2
arrbee99 1815 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Seems reasonable for a month. Maybe a little less so If you decide against after maybe half a week of use. BTW, what is Krs ?

bluemonkey07 590 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Nor is shelling out $4.99 for a months trial unreasonable. Krs Mark Maybe but it requires some investment of time , money and trust before even knowing if the product will suit your needs. I know i would have done the same as the OP if this was the situation when i first discovered Emby....or mediabrowser3 as it was then.
Luke 42079 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Well he actually didn't indicate if his issue was lack of trial or the fact that it needs an unlock at all. 1

BAlGaInTl 288 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I see both sides of this coin... I know it's come up a few times. But let's look at it from a different angle for a moment. 12 minutes to download and setup a robust media server. That's impressive. Surely that carries with it some value. I get that it didn't work out on XB1 right away, but there are other free ways to test Emby before you decide if you want to get a premiere license.
dduke2104 2 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Maybe do what the "other" guys do? Just give one minute of play without Premiere. You'd at least get some idea that it actually does work without paying anything first. But, yeah, if you don't want to invest a few dollars along with the necessary time to thoroughly wring it out then maybe you're just too impatient.
joshhuggins 22 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 if you don't want to invest a few dollars along with the necessary time to thoroughly wring it out then maybe you're just too impatient. I think that's what the devs are thinking, but I don't think that new people who are looking at multiple products at the same time often stop to think that way. I know when I am looking for a solution it's my nature if I hit a barrier to entry like this I move on because I don't want hassle and if I hit something like this early it triggers in my head that there is probably more trouble beyond this point. I think something like limiting playback to a min per title would be a great way to do it myself. That way I can test full functionality to see if it meets my needs or not. Just hate to see people turn away from such a great product for something like this. 1
WilhelmStroker 102 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 A lot of people feel very entitled and just want things for free...Emby Premiere is $4.99 for a month. That's less than a coffee/beer and should allow plenty of time for testing functionality. 1

We are looking at getting a little more consistent on how we handle the trial situation though. 1
Leelp55 0 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Maybe this is not the place to ask this but here goes. 5 days ago after watching a you tube video on Emby Premiere by (touchtone) I quickly subscribed. Normally he would show how to install but now I see why he couldn't. Ok I paided the $4.99 and downloaded Emby. I have a NEXSMART D32 android box. I haven't seen the area to put the key nor do I understand which server to choose. I have read what other people are talking about but it hasn't helped me. Also it really don't help to give a phone number to be told THIS PHONE IS NOT MONITOR. I really want this. Please help. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T217A using Tapatalk

Emby is a personal media server so, before using an app, you would need to install the server (see post above) and point it to your content.

We are looking at getting a little more consistent on how we handle the trial situation though. Just reckon you should be able to test with the app of your choice, preferably for free for a week or two. The more you get to play and see it works and invest more time setting up libraries and fiddling the more likely you are to say oh bugger it where's the Pay button. 1

I used to have Kodi, but deleted it. Will it help to reinstall Kodi to download a server. I saw the message about using windows but through NSSM. Do I use ES file explorer or the downloader for NSSM? Regular playback is perfectly possible without paying a dime, independent of the client. You only pay for premium features. But still I guess that not all apps are free, but most of them are.

jscoys 147 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 People in Emby team are working very hard, and (even if sometimes they miss some help requests), they answer every time to our messages and complaints. Emby could intimidate with all options it offers, but it’s really above Plex, i tried both. @Luke: indeed a free Premiere pass for 7 days to let people check the software is a good idea and definitely will increase users retention.
