smartaxel 15 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Seemingly similar issue here. was recordng and watching Lethal Weapon. Somewhere around 8:2x pm the stream dropped off and I couldnt view live tv anymore. Tried to connect via Android and couldnt view. Restarted wireless and network switch, and coudnt view. Logged into server and saw over 80 percent CPU usage. Grabbed as many logs as I could and they are attached. stoped playing sept 26 8_2xpm.zip
travisolson99 0 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I just installed 3.2.29 and it works like normal. Four recordings and 8% CPU usage instead of 100% with the new update.
acmby 3 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Just wanted to add that I have also been experiencing this high CPU load with 3.2.32. After upgrading I noticed that I started having intermittent playback issues (frequent stopping/starting and corrupted video) with both transcoded and directplay streams. Previously I was on 3.2.30 and never encountered these issues. Wasn't sure what was going on but then I checked my CPU load when this was happening and noticed that the Emby process was at 100%, even when not playing anything. When I'm not having this issue on 32, the CPU loading looks more reasonable. I'm still trying to figure out how I can consistently reproduce this state. BTW I'm running Docker version of Emby server on a Linux box, but the issues I'm experiencing are similar to others in this thread.
kanipek 230 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I am seeing the same problem(s) with my install of 3.3.32.
acmby 3 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 After playing around with it some more I believe the issue I'm seeing is the same as others in this thread and is related to watching/recording Live TV. I have an HDHomerun Connect for OTA live TV and the high CPU loading seems to follow watching live TV. I tried watching live TV for a few minutes and then stopped but noticed that the CPU loading for the "/usr/lib/emby-server/bin/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe" process was still at 100% even after I stopped. I checked a couple hours later after not using the server at all and the process was still at 100%.
Luke 42077 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Please try again with the next release of Emby Server, thanks. 1
lifespeed 42 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I have two simultaneous recordings scheduled for tonight, with transcoding enabled. I'll check the CPU behavior. This is without GPU processing enabled.
lifespeed 42 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Yeah, this is a problem. Two recordings were transcoding, consuming about 50% CPU on the i7-6800K 3.4GHz. After finishing the recordings, Emby server continued to consume 25% CPU for another 45 minutes until I stopped the service and re-started it. FFMPEG did not appear to be running. Hardware accelerated transcoding was not enabled.
Luke 42077 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Please try again with the next release of Emby Server, thanks.
Jennice 19 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Hi Luke, We're waiting for the next release, eager to test. Bring it on! And... thanks to everyone involved for making Emby as great as it already is. Continue the great work.
Jennice 19 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I tried something... which I should probably have done long ago. I tried running emby server on PC1 (i7 3770k), and watching live TV stream (transcoded) on web interface from PC2. Both run Win10 x64. The load was significantly lower on the server PC1 when NOT showing the tv stream, and some of the CPU load spikes were also gone. The CPU load has some spikes on PC2 (viewer), but bot troubeling for the i7 870 in PC2. It seems something makes the system stress when server and viewer are on the same pc. I'll play more when time permits. Maybe it's already addressed as Luke implied in the beta build list with all the changes being done.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Is anyone on Beta Server and testing this? In beta 3.2.32.10/11 Resolve high cpu usage when streaming live tv https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/releases
Jennice 19 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Hi Happy2Play, Regarding beta, I'll probably await the next formal release (albeit rather impatiently) I noticed you're running WinHomeServer. What's the benefit of WHS compared to a "normal" desktop Windows version (Win10 for my case)? Your tag says your server has 38TB storage!? Are you mirroring the entire internet?!
AlKaHall 4 Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 It seems resolved in beta 11+. Back to recording multiple streams with minimal CPU utilization. Thanks! 1
maegibbons 1287 Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Yes - .net core EmbyServer running crazy low CPU now ehen recording 2 streams. 1-2% Krs mark
Jennice 19 Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 (edited) sounds great. I noticed that I had to re-start the server to see the recordings folder. But the shows were recorded, it seems. Where/how can I change the destination folder for recorded TV? Can I rename the folder? The name is not localized to danish, so I'd like to do it myself. Edited September 30, 2017 by Jennice
Azzablitz 1 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 I had the same issue on my Win10 Emby server. I have installed the .14 beta and all is good, cpu is back to normal.
csadoian 36 Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 Please try again with the next release of Emby Server, thanks. Luke, I am now running 3.2.32.14 beta, and so far I am quite impressed! The high CPU issue appears to be completely resolved. At the moment my server is recording two programs, one from my Prime Tuner and the other from my OTA Connect tuner. CPU usage for the machine is running around 65-70%, almost all due to FFMPEG transcoding the recordings to .mpv files. I also have hardware transcoding turned on (Nvidia). The Emby server process itself is running around 1% CPU usage, which is what I would expect. HOWEVER, it appears you have resolved the issue I had been having with runaway memory usage of the server when attempting to view LIve TV with an EXTERNAL video player. You may recall that I had reported a while back that anytime I attempted to use an external player for live TV the Emby Server process would start consuming tons of server memory and continue to do so until all the available memory was consumed and the machine would grind to a halt. My desire to use an external player rather than the internal player stems from the problem of Emby forcing transcoding because of an unsupported audio codec on my Android TV boxes. These boxes are the TV boxes you can find on Amazon, many of them being promoted as "Kodi boxes". Even though they are connected to my TV via HDMI for some reason Emby is being told it can't handle the native audio (I think it's AC3), so Emby transcodes it. With these latest betas I can now use MX Player as an external player to play the live stream and Emby will direct play it, resulting in much lower CPU load on the server because of no transcoding. With two HD recordings going I have a Nascar race going on one Android box and an NFL football game going on another Android TV box (both using MX player to avoid transcoding). These two streams barely made a blip on the server. Prior to this beta release doing all this would probably have brought the server down in less than 10 minutes. Well done!!
Luke 42077 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 3.2.33 is out with the fix for this. Thanks guys.
Jennice 19 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I'm SOO looking forward to try this new build! Emby is an awesome package, so many thanks to the development team!
Jennice 19 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 The CPU use has been greatly reduced in the 3.2.33 build. Really impressive! Maybe it's a dumb question, but I just wonder... When streaming to a Emby Theater with transcoding on a Win10 PC (same as running server), I can now do 3 mbps at around 45-50% CPU load. Streaming to my android device over WiFi at home, the CPU load goes beyond 60% for a 1 mbps transcode output. Is it a different codec, or why could this be?

Jennice 19 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 (edited) Hmmm... I just tried making a recording in my i7-3770, Emby build 3.2.33. It says aprox. 30% CPU usage, mainly by FFMpeg !? I didn't ask it to transcode on recording. No clients watching a stream. anyone else seeing something like this? Edited October 23, 2017 by Jennice
