ilovetesting 0 Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Hi! It would be great if it where possible to create various different content type librarys pointing to the same folder, so Emby could find all types of files it recognizes on that structure. Now it's not possible to have... Content type photos reading from c:\files and Content type music reading from c:\files The first one created is the library that works all the next pointing to the same folder doesn't work. Thanks
ebr 16184 Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Hi. The content types exist so that we can apply certain rules to the files we find within those folders to properly identify them as what they are and then provide the best features for that type of media. For instance - if you create a library with a content type of "Movies" then we are going to interpret image files within that folder as belonging to a movie and relate them that way. If, instead, you indicate a content type of "Photos" then we now must interpret any image files as photos and make them items in the library. Having the content types is what allows us to have this type of specialized interpretation. There really isn't any way to have things be totally generic and still provide the level of features dedicated to the different types that we have. Another example - a sub folder named "Season xx" within a TV library is something very different than the same type of folder in a photo or movie library. So, the above request would create a lot of conflicts for how to interpret items and also potentially create situations where the exact same item is trying to be two different things at once. That is something the system is not designed to handle I'm afraid. We understand that this may, in some cases, force you to adhere to a slightly different physical organization than you may be using now. However, this trade-off is what allows us to have all of the specialized features for all of the different types of media.
ilovetesting 0 Posted September 21, 2017 Author Posted September 21, 2017 Hi! Thanks for the explanation. I understand what you say. But that Is very limiting. This is my structure... Archive (disk P:) |--Archived files |--2016 |--home photos and videos |--2016-05-Trip to somewhere |--here are jpg, avi, mp4, etc... mostly videos and photos |--2016-06-Trip to somewhere |--here are jpg, avi, mp4, etc... mostly videos and photos |--other files archived, pdfs, docs, zips of my work |--other folders and files with jpg, png, mp3, wav, avi from work |--2017 |--home photos and videos |--2017-05-Trip to somewhere |--here are jpg, avi, mp4, etc... mostly videos and photos |--other files archived, pdfs, docs, zips of my work |--other folders and files with jpg, png, mp3, wav, avi from work |--Music |--Artist |--Album |-- mp3 files (it can have jpg files of the album) |--MusicCDs |--Artist |--cue and wav files (it can have jpg files of the album) |--MusicDVDs |--Artist - name of the DVD |--iso files of the dvds |--Books |--Programming |--pdf, jpg, docs files and some zips |--other |--pdf, jpg, docs files and some zips |--Movies |--avi files and iso files |--Music |--avi, mkv, mp4 files |--Courses |--avi files and some zips with avi files The folders Music and MusicCDs i can put in content type of Music. The folders Movies, Courses and MusicDVDs i can put in content type of Movies. Then i can't put the Movies\Music in the content type Music videos. The folder Books i can put in the content type of Books. The bigger problem is the Archived files where there are lots of folders from many years of work and personal photos and videos. How could i address this? I could put the archived files with in content type Photos so i can have my personal photos and videos recorded from my smartphone, but can't have nothing else in the library. What happens to zip files or iso files inside these folders? How they are read and added to library? Thanks
ebr 16184 Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 In order to utilize all the features Emby provides for the different types of media, you would have to do some bit of re-organization to fit our guidelines. Or, you could just use the generic "Home Videos" type and do without all of the features.
Luke 42078 Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 I think in theory it would be possible to build up the mixed content library to support photos and music. But even still, that's only intended for people that must have it and will result in loss of features. Sticking to recommended folder structures is still our suggested approach.
ilovetesting 0 Posted September 21, 2017 Author Posted September 21, 2017 (edited) Hi! I will try to change some of my folder organization to follow your structure, but i don't know if it is logical to me. I can add that if i use the Home videos and photos only the videos show, i can't see the photos. It's only possible to have photos and videos if i choose content type "Photos". The unset (mixed content) shows only videos, mp3 and iso files, nothing else. Thanks Edited September 22, 2017 by ilovetesting
ilovetesting 0 Posted September 22, 2017 Author Posted September 22, 2017 (edited) Hi! Just wanted to say that for example in Kodi is possible to add the same folder to different type of contents and like this i can have all my different media indexed and usable. Can Emby do the same? I know that Kodi is for another use and not to be used online, but only in desktop, so i was trying to use Emby do get the same results but online in a browser. Thanks Edited September 22, 2017 by ilovetesting
nicksphone 0 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 plex can do what your trying to do to a point i believe they use if it has a year in the naming structure its a move and tv use session ep structures but that would not separate home movies from hollywood should not be to hard to do that with emby

ilovetesting 0 Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) Hi! What i mean is to have the same folder defined in different content type library's. For example: - Content type movies folder c:\content - Content type music folder c:\content - Content type photos folder c:\content And in my c:\content i can have folders with photos, other with videos other with music files and even all mixed up. Kodi will show in each content type the content related to the type chosen. I think Plex can do the same. But with Emby if i put a folder on content type videos and next the same folder in content type photos, the second doesn't work, only the first content type works. So, it seems to have some kind of identification by folder and not by content type that limits the use of the same folder with another content type. Edited September 28, 2017 by ilovetesting
