Folder Structure for Special Features and Deleted Scenes

The dvd Walking Dead Special Features has directors commentary and deleted scenes. How would I organize this?

You would put them all in a folder named either Specials or Season 00. After that, you can make them appear in sequence by editing the metadata and setting the values for aired order if they are set by the metadata provider. Since Walking Dead is a popular new series, it probably has pretty accurate metadata at the provider.

Curious, is it also possible to have a Specials folder under each Season folder?

There are some shows I have that have a lot of files in the Season 0/Specials folder and would be good to filter out the season specific extras to each season, leaving just the general show extras in the base Specials folder.

You would put all the "Specials" in the same folder. Then you edit the metadata for the individual items so they appear in the other seasons.  In the metadara, you can set what season it airs in and after which season episode. This allows the system to pull updates from thetvdb.com or other metadata providers.

Logically this would make sense, but the way it's being done now is how all the other apps do it. By other apps I don't just mean competitors, I also mean external tools designed to manage or interact with tv libraries. So while it's a good idea, too many people would be affected (and unhappy) if we were to start doing this.

As a bit of an aside.  When talking about movies - does anyone have any suggestions on how one would know what special feature is what?  i.e. if I have say 5 'special features' I've extracted to mkv- how do you know what is what in order to tag it?  It is easy to figure out what the main movie is based on file size.  But is there any way to tell what are, say, deleted scenes vs. some other featurette?

Thanks.

I go to this site and check the review:

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Hunger-Games-Catching-Fire-Blu-ray/67923/#Review

Go to the bottom where they have the extras section. They usually list the titles and the lengths. The length should be enough to identify.

@Luke  Thanks a lot.  I use that site all the time to check release dates and such, but never paid much attention to the extra's part of the review.

So I've created a Specials folder for one of my movies.  I can see the specials fine (under the appropriate movie) via server and mbt, but I do not see any way to edit the metadata for the specials.  Is there a way to do this?

not at the moment, sorry.

That is fine.  Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

I've never been too fussed with "extras". just recently ripped a few of my favourite films on blu ray and some of the special features are quite good. SO...

I place a specials folder in the film folder and the featurettes in there.. I see nothing in the dashboard or MBC.

Is there a naming convention for the files as opposed to say "lost boys documentary.mkv"???

any help greatly appreciated.

You can name the files whatever you want. I don't know about MBC, but in MBT there should be a Specials tab (next to Cast, I believe)and on the server there should be a Special Features section right below the Cast & Crew.

folder structure should look like this:

Movies\Almost Famous (2000)\Almost Famous.mkv

Movies\Almost Famous (2000)\Specials\The making of Almost Famous.mkv

I think you will have to rescan library after adding specials.
