noob questions backup/restore & metadata move

I've been browsing these forums for quite some time now, and the answers I found seemed to out of date and/or confusing.

I'm using emby version 3.2.30, the server is on a Windows 7 Pro platform My kodi is 17.5-RC1

So far, the only methods I've been able to access for backing up the database is within the emby app on my kodi

I am assuming this does not backup the metadata.  I've read a few posts that recommend using the backup / restore plugin to move data across, but this plugin does not appear in any accessible list. Is it defunct, renamed?

Also, on my dashboard I see the paths used for cache, logs, metadata & transcoding, and have been able to assign a custom path for the cache.

I have not found any means of modifying the metadata location.  This needs to be changed as soon as possible as it is currently sitting on a failing drive.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, you can change the metadata path under library -> advanced.

I do not have an option under library for any advanced settings. The only option that comes close is the toggle to save artwork & metadata into media folders, found in each media library. Although that "seems" to be ineffective as I've had those settings enabled from the start and am still getting data in the failing drive location.

Up at the top you will see the tabs that belong to the library section. Try clicking on Advanced. Thanks.

Note though this option does not help with backup and restore as all this metadata is rewritten to different itemids with every rebuild.  From as restore standpoint it is recommended to store metadata with media.

Oh God! I am blind!  I do see the menu top of the screen..[D'OH!] thx

That should solve that.

How will I perform complete, and differential backups, of metadata, settings, etc?

Only by using OS level backups or a script.  Emby only backs up configurations via plugin.
