cstrike 0 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 (edited) Hi, looking for some help if possible. Short version -- when I go to settings on the Emby Theater app for XBox One the only options under Playback are General and Subtitles. The rest are missing. Long version: Right now the app is transcoding to aac. The Xbox is hooked up to a receiver which does not support aac. As a result, the channels are getting screwed up when its being converted between the XBox and receiver. When I force it to transcode to ac3 via DLNA it works perfectly. So all I am really trying to do here is 1) not use the DLNA/mplayer route and 2) transcode to ac3 (or something else?) instead of aac. Thanks for the help. Edited September 4, 2017 by cstrike
CBers 7450 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 It's a known issue about the AC3 to AAC remuxing. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/46346-xbox-one-creators-update-issues/page-8&do=findComment&comment=449866 Have you changed your Xbox to output DD?
cstrike 0 Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Yes, same issue. I found a file that isolates channels for testing. I saw the thread about remuxing. Is there any reason why we cant just specify ac3 transcode in the app? Are the settings there and just hidden or do they not work on the XBox version?
CBers 7450 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Luke changed the ET app to do that, but there's still no fix for it. There are no settings to change. What are your audio settings on your XB1?
cstrike 0 Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Have not tried Ember yet, is it any good? I've tried both DTS and DD. Audio output is HDMI only (no optical) 5.1 bitstream. Technically it comes out in surround. But if you try testing it with a file that isolate channels you'll actually hear that it bleeds over into channels. If I play the file direct its fine, if I force it to transcode to ac3 its fine. Its only when its transcoded to aac. Which is unfortunately the default behavior of ET. I guess I could try Ember for now. Is this on a list to get resolved at some point?
FrostByte 5392 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 There is an issue since the Creators Update with html5 which causes ET to crash when Direct Playing AC3/DTS. The issue has been brought up with users of several apps on the Xbox forums and MS is aware of it. I believe converting to AAC was just a temporary workaround until a solution with MS can be worked out
CBers 7450 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 I have just tried playing content with AAC audio and the Xbox is outputting DD to my TV and Sonos PlayBar. Ember is @@7illusions app. It doesn't remux AC3 to AAC, so give it a go.
Vicpa 611 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Hi The playback in ember is quite good ! 1
cstrike 0 Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Tested it quickly, Ember seems to get around that issue. Thank you for the suggestion. Does the direct DTS passthrough option work? I didn't really have a chance to get into it but a quick test it wound up transcoding to ac3 still.
7illusions 1249 Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 @@cstrike Can you post a picture of the mediainfo of a file that transcodes even if DTS Passthrough is enabled? Thanks
cstrike 0 Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 Attached is the output of the media info. Below is the relevant remux log file. Thanks for the help with this. Haven't had a chance to really play with this yet, but it did fix the issue I had with ET.
