webrats 0 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Im tired of having to tell emby to use 5.1 every time.. is there some setting that will allow me to tell it to default to 5.1? this is not an issue in plex No i am not going to re-encode everything to make 5.1 the first channel. Any help would be great
Luke 42083 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Hi, what Emby app would you like to do this in?
Wilky13 21 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Emby goes with whatever track you have set as 'default'. For instance all my movies have 2-ch aac track 1, 6-ch ac3 track 2, and some even a DTS track 3. But using Subler I set the 6-ch ac3 track (or DTS if there is one) as the default track, and that's what Emby plays. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
CBers 7452 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Doesn't the Xbox One output whatever setting you have set in the AUDIO settings? I have mine set to DD and I always get DD on my TV, no matter what Emby does. @@FrostByte?
FrostByte 5392 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 (edited) My experience is that the XB1 will bitstream out whatever codec you have it set at in audio options. Right now the ET app converts everything to AAC for me (according to remux logs on server), but my XB1 is set to bitstream DD through my HDMI port and my receiver's display says it's receiving DD from my XB1. So that would seem to point that the XB1 is converting it again (AAC to DD). You probably could manually change the XB1 setting for changes in input audio (DTS, DD, TrueHD), but the last I checked there were only those 3 bitstreaming options on the XB1. I don't recall there being a pass-through option on the XB1, thus it would have to convert the input audio if it doesn't match your setting. It won't change a stereo input file to surround though, just the codec Edit: To fix the OPs problem though they don't need to reencode or remux to change the default audio file within a mkv, just change the header in MKVToolnix which takes about 5 seconds. That will still take awhile to change a lot of files Edited September 4, 2017 by FrostByte 1

Happy2Play 9783 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Default is refering to the flag set in the mkv file. Are your tracks flagged which ones are suppose to be default if you have more then on track? If no tracks are flagged default Emby should play the first track.

Wilky13 21 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 The 'default' track is set by what ever container modifying program you use. For example, I edit all my MP4 files using a program called Subler on my Mac. On there I make sure that audio track 1 is aac stereo, and track 2 is ac3 surround. I then check track 2 as default and make sure track 1 is not checked as default. This way any device that is capable of decoding ac3 audio does so, if it can't then it will fall back to the aac stereo track. Also, I noticed with a recent update to Emby Theater, that under the audio settings you have to check all the things your AVR is capable of decoding, else it will play in stereo. nvader2000 12 Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 Your receiver should be able to pick the correct audio track based on your speaker configuration. You should be able to use the setup in your receiver to do this unless it an older model. I use MakeMKV and have the profile configured to select all English audio tracks. This way my receiver will only play back 5.1 even if there is a 7.1 track available because it knows that I only have a 5.1 speaker setup. You should seriously think about getting a 7.1 setup and if you can afford it go True Atmos. I just added 8 additional speakers and a second infloor sub-woofer, so 11.2. The 4 height speakers, 2 front wide speakers, and 2 Surround Back transformed my movie experience in ways I could never describe here.
