csadoian 36 Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Ever since the problem with the guide surfaced a week ago, I have been having what appear to be "glitches" in my scheduled recordings. To give you an example, today I am recording a bunch of CSI:Las Vegas Episodes being broadcast back-to-back on Oxygen. I've recorded some of these in the past, played them, and then deleted them, but still have quite a few on hand. So Emby was recording most of these episodes today, but at 2pm it stopped, even though there are 10 more being broadcast today. Out of the 10 remaining, there are three episodes, S4:E9,10,11 that I don't have already recorded. But Emby will not record them. I can understand Emby not recording episodes of the ones I have on hand, but why won't it record the ones I don't have? My series settings are "All Episodes", but don't record those already in my Library. Only record on the Oxygen channel, and keep as many as possible. I have attached a screen shot of the raw folder on my NAS drive that shows what episodes I have in Season 4. This matches up with what Emby shows. Yet Emby won't record these episodes automatically. As far as I know Emby does not give a reason why it doesn't record an episode in a series, so I'm not sure why this is happening. Is there a place in Emby that a user can be told WHY a particular episode isn't being recorded (I would think on the SERIES section, where is shows upcoming episodes and if they are being recorded or not). Of course, I can always MANUALLY record the episodes, but that's not the point. Is there some where in Emby that keeps track of episodes I've recorded, watched and then deleted? Also attached is my server log. server-63639680840.txt
Luke 42085 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 What are your settings for that particular series recording?
csadoian 36 Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 What are your settings for that particular series recording? I mentioned that in my original post, but here are the complete settings: Record all episodes Don't record episodes that are already in my library Channels: Channel OXYGNHP only LabelAirtime: Anytime Keep up to: As Many as possible Start when possible: 1 minutes before Stop when possible: 1 minutes after The guide shows the next episode marathon will start on Thursday Sept 7th at 3:00am, beginning with S4:19-23, then S5:1-6. Emby shows it will record all of them next week. They are not already in my library. By the way, all the shows are marked as REPEATS, as they should be. Hmm, I see on that date at 2:00pm they start over with S4:19-21, and Emby is not going to record those. I think I see what is happening here. Emby appears to be looking at the guide and assuming it's going to record S4:E19-21 beginning at 3:00am, so the re-airing starting at 2:00pm is not going to be recorded. What happened yesterday is that Emby had trouble recording the three Episodes S4:9-11 (I only got partial recordings for some reason, maybe trouble with Comast). In any case, I deleted those three episodes around 9am yesterday, so I assumed Emby would check my library and notice they were not there and re-record them later on that afternoon when they were re-broadcast. Apparently that is not the case. So if and episode in a series appears twice in the guide, it won't be recorded regardless of the fact it is not in my library? I hope all this is clear enough explanation ..... it's a little difficult to put in words what I see happening here.
csadoian 36 Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 By the way, after I deleted episodes that didn't record correctly I re scanned my libraries.
Luke 42085 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 What happens if you uncheck this option? Don't record episodes that are already in my library
csadoian 36 Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 What happens if you uncheck this option? Don't record episodes that are already in my library I unchecked the option, nothing changes, which is surprising. It appears that Emby is seeing the duplicate episodes in the guide and deciding it only needs to schedule the first ones to be recorded and ignores the subsequent airings. Remember, this is all scheduled for Sept 7, so none of these episodes have been recorded as of yet. Episodes S4:19, 20 and 21 first air at 3:00am-5am, then are scheduled to repeat beginning at 2:00pm later in the day. The showings beginning at 2:00pm are being ignored. I think there are probably more episodes after those three, but my guide does not go out that far as of this morning. Screen shot attached.
csadoian 36 Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 what else is in the series schedule? Here is a screen shot of the balance of the series schedule.
Luke 42085 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Right, so those episodes must have the same program id in the guide data. it's not going to record the same thing multiple times.
csadoian 36 Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 I might also mention that I had a similar situation come up when I attempted to schedule a series recording for my local news. My local station has a 6pm news entitled "Action News LIve at 6". Before we had problems with the guide, I was able to schedule a series recording for this program. After the guide was fixed I had to delete and re-enter in all my series settings. When I did so on this news program I think it set up recordings on the first two days and subsequent days were ignored. Not sure why that happened, but it might be related. To work around that I had to go to each day and force a recording.
csadoian 36 Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 Right, so those episodes must have the same program id in the guide data. it's not going to record the same thing multiple times. But in my scenario, three of the recordings failed and were deleted by me. So they were not in my library any more. Emby still ignored the second showings because (I assume) it still could see the first showings in the guide. I would think that Emby would always check to see if an episode exists in my library and record it if it doesn't, if I have "all episodes" checked. I guess that's not the way the logic is designed. No big deal, I just have to remember in situations like this (when I delete an episode due to a problem that shows again on the same day) that I manually enable the episode for recording.
Luke 42085 Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 I agree that when they fail the server should reschedule, so yes, you're right there.
