twinkybot 3 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Hi, as I mentioned in https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/50276-metadata-manager-mass-changing-eg-genre/ I changed metadata via EasyTag but the Library Scanner of Emby does not pick it up. What can I do that non-existing gernes are removed? Greetings.
Luke 42081 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 A library scan is enough. How exactly does easy tag save the genres?
twinkybot 3 Posted August 30, 2017 Author Posted August 30, 2017 How internally I do not know. But I set the Metadata to be saved as ID3v2.4. Okay, interesting. I did a rescan. For most files it worked but for some Emby remembers the wrong Genre. Let me try to change it to totally something else and then to the value back I want.
twinkybot 3 Posted September 10, 2017 Author Posted September 10, 2017 Hi Luke, I noticed after at long last being able to try. That changing the genre alone and doing a re-indexing does not help. But if I change the e.g. album title then the gerne is properly recognized and emby shows it properly. Greetings.
Luke 42081 Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 What do you mean by changing the genre alone? You should be able to change the genre in an audio track and then just let the next library scan take care of it.
twinkybot 3 Posted September 17, 2017 Author Posted September 17, 2017 Hi Luke, so to be more verbose. At the beginning I had some audio files tagged as Vocal which I wanted to change e.g. to SciFi, Crime. As Emby is not very user friendly in mass changing files I did this with EasyTag. First the Genre only. After saving the Metadata I started a re-scan of the library. Emby did then not recognize those changes. Second step was that I changed the Album name and for some other files the Genre as well. Then again I did a re-indexing. This time Emby recognized the changes of the Genre. The last step then was to change the Album back to the original value and do a last time manual re-indexing.
Luke 42081 Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 Why do you think the genre changes weren't picked up? how exactly were you measuring that? thanks.
twinkybot 3 Posted September 18, 2017 Author Posted September 18, 2017 (edited) Well simply by going to the library on the user UI and then selecting Genre from the list Artist, Album, Album-Artist etc. tabs. This shows me all the avaiable Genres. Everytime I did a CRTL+Shift F5 (but I believe I disabled cache permanently anyways). After each step I saw or didn't see the changes as described above EDIT: I waited for the library scan to be finished before entering the page. Re-scanning I triggered via Admin user from a privat Tab. Edited September 18, 2017 by twinkybot
Luke 42081 Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 As a test, can you try this again, except give it two library scans? This is not expected behavior on your part, I am just looking for information. Thanks.

So wouldn't this require a "Replace all" Refresh?
Happy2Play 9783 Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Nope that wasn't it. Used mp3tag and changed genre on album tracks and performed a library scan and the updated genre was picked up.
Luke 42081 Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Excellent. @@twinkybot, are you sure you're tagging them correctly?
twinkybot 3 Posted September 19, 2017 Author Posted September 19, 2017 Well EasyTag is as it name implies really easy. Like you can see in the screenshot you set the data in the appropriate fields and click save. That's it. But I will try again. Although I won't make it till end of September.
Luke 42081 Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 There are multiple flavors of tags, e.g. v1, v2, etc. You want to make sure it saves them all.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 (edited) Did a default install of easytag 2.4.2 on windows and no issue updating genre tag and performning a library scan to pick it up. Don't know if it matters but this was in a beta build. Edited September 19, 2017 by Happy2Play
