avalon65 2 Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 I have been using the emby app for my android tablet for a long time now, and all at once when I want to stream my own music from my NAS server I have to unlock this feature with an active emby Premier subscription. Eh, why this all of a sudden, I'm only playing my own music or want to do.
Luke 42077 Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Hi, you need either Emby Premiere, or a one-time unlock within the app. Did you purchase the one-time unlock a long time ago?
avalon65 2 Posted August 27, 2017 Author Posted August 27, 2017 Hi, you need either Emby Premiere, or a one-time unlock within the app. Did you purchase the one-time unlock a long time ago? Nope, I haven't purchased anything to do with emby, so what should I do now then
ebr 16169 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Are you sure you weren't using the web app previously?
avalon65 2 Posted August 28, 2017 Author Posted August 28, 2017 What do you mean by previously? I use the emby app from google play store on my android tablet to stream the music from my NAS server, and have done this for approximately 12 - 18 months now. I also have emby server my laptop , which is , AFAIK, the only web app or page I use. Thanks
ebr 16169 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 The app has required either an unlock purchase or Emby Premiere for quite a long time so we are trying to figure out how you could have been using it up to this point without one of those. One possibility would have been that you were actually bringing up the web app in the phone's browser as opposed to the store app. They would have looked very similar.

I wasn't aware that I would have to purchase an unlock or Emby Premiere at any time, so that is why I was surprised when it happened. I don't understand what you mean about the web app, as it is a play store app for emby on my android tablet. Is this what I have to do now, purchase an unlock, and if so how do I go about it. Thanks
ebr 16169 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Doesn't the app present you with a button to press right there where you are getting this message?
darkassassin07 652 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) As long as you are on you local network you can access emby from most web browsers using computers local ip address. Something like http://192.168.0.0:8096 this doesn't require an emby premier subscription. If you have setup the required port forwarding you can also access this from you networks wan ip address when away from home. Both your local (Lan) and public (wan) addresses should be listed in the dashboard of your server. Otherwise you will need premier to use the other apps. They are free to browse you media, but playback needs premier. Edited August 28, 2017 by darkassassin07
avalon65 2 Posted August 28, 2017 Author Posted August 28, 2017 Doesn't the app present you with a button to press right there where you are getting this message? There's an arrow pointing back saying unlock this feature, and then there are 2 buttons where one says 'Already Paid' and the other one says 'Play 1 minute' I take it that I go back according to the said arrow and make a payment of whatever it is?
Luke 42077 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 On that screen there should be more buttons to pay. How did you install the app? is it from the play store?
speechles 2055 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) When you say, using it since long ago. Just how long have you been using the android app? For several years? Do you mean back when redshirt had his third party unofficial app as the only emby app on google play? You paid him to use his app? Because those users were grandfathered in as "pay to unlock" users with the original me@myemail.com used on your google account that purchased the application from redshirt. Redhsirt eventually made his app free to all, maybe you even got the app during this free period. This means you might have gotten the app from redshirt and emby team not wanting to charge you again gave you their app for free. Embys official android app replaced redshirts app during an update. You might have got this all for free. Have you tried using the "Ive already paid" button? Also, if you reset your device back to factory settings during this time you need to use the same email that was grandfathered into emby. ebr 16169 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 This is a Google device with the normal Google Play store, correct?
avalon65 2 Posted August 29, 2017 Author Posted August 29, 2017 On that screen there should be more buttons to pay. How did you install the app? is it from the play store? There are no other buttons other than what I have said or noted. Yes the app is from Google Playstore

ebr 16169 Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Are you using an account that has restrictions on the Play Store? Like you cannot make purchases or something? For some reason the purchase button is not showing for you and this usually means the Play Store services are not available.

Not that I am aware of, and I cannot recall any option to pay for it at that time. I have just looked on the Google Play Store and located emby for android, and there is nothing about buying or paying for the app.
Luke 42077 Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 I will test right now to make sure there isn't a regression with the in app purchase. thanks.
Luke 42077 Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Ok, works just fine, this is what you should be seeing.
Luke 42077 Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 If you are not seeing the purchase options, then it means the app was unable to communicate with the google play store. Make sure you haven't disabled for the current google account via parental controls or anything like that.
avalon65 2 Posted August 29, 2017 Author Posted August 29, 2017 (edited) I can see Offers in-app purchases now, and no there is definitely no purchase options. What do you think I should do then, uninstall and reinstall again.?? The only thing I can think of is that as it is in-app purchase, maybe I did pay for it to google, but I am not sure at all. Luke 42077 Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 make sure you haven't disabled the google play store for the current google account that is signed into the device.
avalon65 2 Posted August 29, 2017 Author Posted August 29, 2017 make sure you haven't disabled the google play store for the current google account that is signed into the device. I have un installed then reinstalled, and although there was something about in-app purchases, I just downloaded emby and installed it without being asked to pay for it. Anyways, it works as it did previously, and don't get asked to make a payment now.
