Audio Playback Issue

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am having an issue with the audio on some files not working properly. All the background noises and ambient sounds are there, but not the dialogue. The real kicker is that it is only on 1 computer which leads me to believe that it is a codec or decoding issue, but im not sure where to start. Any suggestions?

We need more detail. Can you post a screenshot of the file details? Are you down mixing to stereo, using surround sound? Are you using the app from the store or from the emby site?

The app is from the emby website. No down mixing is being done - just listening over headphones plugged into the computer. What file details do you need?

Like I said, it's computer specific and only on certain files (random file types). It is a remote connection though from outside the home

So you also get this with music? Specifically, stereo.

Sounds like you're sending a 5.1 mix to a 2.0 playback source and not downmixing to stereo.  If all the dialog is in the center channel you get no dialog without a center speaker or downmixing.

That's what I was thinking, but if the same is happening with music, that will be ruled out.

Pull up the stats when you're playing.

I don't use Emby for music

How do I down mix? I am not knowingly down mixing on other computers and can't replicate the problem

What are your audio settings in Theater?

@ he's using the web app. So essentially what he's asking for here is an option to force transcoding to 2-channel stereo audio because some browsers don't have very good built-in downmixing. For instance Chrome typically does a good job of it whereas firefox does not.

Ah. There seems to be some confusion between web app and app from the web site.

Oh, well OK then. So what are your audio settings?

Try selecting stereo.
