Wacind 1 Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Just setup a new instance of Emby Server on a Windows 7 box and mostly using it to stream Movies and Live TV. I have a gigabit network at home and my WAN speed is 330Mbps/25Mbps. I would expect that with my network speeds, Emby would never need to transcode. However, even on my home network where both the server and client are connected to my gigabit router using ethernet cables, Emby is having to transcode. Server: Windows 7 Emby Server Client: Windows 10 using http://tv.emby.media (streaming bitrate to Auto) Both are on the same network. With both Live TV and Movies, I am getting transcoding even though both the Movie and TV i tested had a bitrate of about 5Mbps Attached are the logs (with debugging turned on): 1) Live TV. - I recorded and played an HD channel from HDHomerun Prime. The recording was an hour long and MediaInfo says it was 5.6Mbps 2) Movie - The movie i played was also 5.6Mbps. I would preferably love to just direct stream everything/most things. Thanks Movie_Transcode.txt LiveTV_Record_Transcode.txt LiveTV_Transcode.txt
Luke 42078 Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Hi @@Wacind. You're playing in a web browser. Web browsers do not support: the mpegts container mpeg2 video codec ac3 audio codec (except MS Edge). So that is why you are transcoding. Enjoy your video
benbour 12 Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 (edited) You do have path substitution set up right? Your clients will need to know the direct path to where your media is stored if it's going to have direct access to it, otherwise emby transcodes and is basically the middleman between your client and the media Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk Edit:nvm Edited August 23, 2017 by benbour

Yes this will help some apps such as Emby Theater for Windows Desktop, Emby for WMC and Emby for Kodi. In this case though he's playing with the web browser so it won't matter. Thanks !
