Album Artist sorting with Various Artists

Hey everyone,

I'm testing out Emby but am having an issue sorting by Album Artist for music. Included in the albums under this listing are Various Artist albums (ie. soundtracks, etc.) that the artist has a song on. I'd expect this from the Artist listing but not Album Artist as the files are properly tagged with "Various Artists" as Album Artist and the artist name under Artist.

Any ideas on how to correct this sorting or is this just an Emby thing?

Thanks!

Hi, welcome, sorry I'm having a hard time visualizing. Can you discuss an example and/or show a screenshot? thanks !

Basically if sort by Album Artist and select an artist (let's say 2Pac) I see all of their albums plus other albums such as soundtracks or compilations that they have song on (so under 2Pac I see the Gang Related soundtrack). If I then look up another artist (let's say Ice Cube) under Album Artists who also has a song on that soundtrack, that same soundtrack is listed there. The soundtracks / compilations all are tagged with the Album Artist as Various Artists and the Artist field as the artist for each track but for some reason these albums are listed under an artist who has one song on that album. Shouldn't the albums under each artist only be the ones with that artist name in the Album Artist field and Various Artist albums not show up there?

Ok I understand. I think that could be argued either way. The counter argument is that if an artist you like appears in a movie soundtrack that you happen to have, then it's nice to be able to see that.

But wouldn't that make sense to see when sorting by Artist and not Album Artist?

Yes I can see the case for that, it's just that currently they both lead to the same place. In other words, the the screen doesn't know where you came from. It's a possibility to review for a future update. Thanks.
