Emby Service is gone

Hi Emby creators.

I've been having a lot of issues with my installation so I decided to remove all and start again.

I did a full uninstall, and now emby is not installing as a service. 

Latest Stable version installer - 3.2.28.0

I have tried this order:

1. Completely uninstall Emby with all boxes checked
2. Restart the server.
3. Install Emby as administrator (tried just running too)
4. Restart server.
5. Check services, Emby not there, Media Browser not there either. (On my last install it was always there as "Emby Server".

I really need to get this up and running again. If anyone can help please let me know.

Just did a fresh install of Emby from download page using same steps as above and service was reinstalled.

I have the same problem too, additionally to this.

 

I tried 1st and 3rd checkbox, however, I am not too keen at deleting all settings. Shouldn't really be the solution.

 

What's the problem?

If I reinstall the server, service doesn't appear, same as reported above.

 

I think the problem reported here, that Emby is not installing as services, is connected to my other thread where I wasn't able to add folders if Emby were running as services. Right  now, I can't even run as service, because it doesn't install.

Sounds like something related to a windows 10 update. I have some windows 10 updates that are waiting to restart so i will have to see if i can reproduce it. thanks.

Major updates to Windows like the Creator's Update will wipe the service.  Has done that since the initial Windows 10 release.  There have been a lot of threads on this from others.  However, in my experience reinstalling Emby from the web page after a major update always recreates the service.

It did previously. It doesn't do in this case.

same problem for me and I think is 100% due to windows update. Not sure how to fix it

You could try running the emby server process from the command line with the following switch:

-uninstallservice

Make sure to run as admin. This will do a one-time uninstallation of the windows service. Then after that, start the server back up and see if it re-installs it.

 

Alternatively you can play with Emby Server running on .NET Core. It actually does not include a service and instead we offer a way to set one up. I think that approach is better. Eventually this will become the version that is on the website.

Or looked in event viewer?

There probably will not be because the windows service is installed by the server itself and not the installer.

There must be a log of the reason why somewhere though?
