frogmire 0 Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Hi guys, so I'm looking into Emby and moving away from Plex. I've got a question though, to my knowledge, and it isn't much, when I run my plex and have the secure connections required set, the information going out of my plex box is encrypted correct? Meaning that only me and the person on the other end can see the content? If so, I'd like to do the same with Emby but it seems a bit more elaborate. I saw from my searching that if I want to force the HTTPS I need to check "Report https as external address". However, when I click it, it gives me warnings about needing an SSL certificate. But I read under the custom certificate path that I can supply my own SSL cert or the server will create a self signed cert. So I guess my question is, do I need to get a cert to have it encrypted? I did find a guide but it involves me getting into stuff I am not too knowledgeable in. Or if I just have people connect via the https port is that sufficiently encrypted and private? Thanks.
darkassassin07 652 Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 (edited) You will be required to get a certificate if you wish to use ssl encryption. Letsencrypt provides free ssl certificates however they require an active domain name and must be renewed every 90 days. Edited August 19, 2017 by darkassassin07
