Morning,

I can't seem to get flv files to play through Emby for WMC, I have installed shark codec and I can get it to play in Windows Media Player and if I right click on the .flv file (Movie/Series) and open with WMC it plays but just not inside Emby.

Any ideas?

Are you running a 64-bit version of Windows? If so, Shark007 codec packages have both an x86 & x64 component. Windows media player is, by default, a 32-bit app while WMC is 64-bit. Based on your description,  it sounds like you've got things set up correctly for 32-bit, but not 64-bit.

Open BOTH Shark007 32-bit / 64-bit Settings Application GUIs. On EACH, 1st select the 'Reset All' radio button in the lower left-hand corner, followed by rechecking 'Shark007 SUGGESTED settings'. This usually clears up most playback issues.

Thanks for the reply, I did try this, but will give it another go.

I am running Windows 7 64bit.

I've run Win7 for years w/ Shark's Standard codec packs. WMC/WMP play everything I throw at 'em without issue, although I now use an external player for WMC movies.

I am using Shark Advanced codec pack, will this make a difference.

How do you use a external player for WMC movies?

Std vs Adv ought to make no difference. Get this working 1st.

When you installed 'Emby for WMC', it should have created a Start menu item called 'Emby for WMC Configurator'. This will let you define an external player for EMC. It so happens, I use the MPC-BE / MadVR install from Shark007's 'Tool' page, customized for his codecs. Works great, but is not quite a 'point 'n shoot' some would prefer.

Will take a look.

I will test the changes to Shark tonight and give you an update tomorrow.

Thanks for the input so far.

I'm not sure why that file is transcoding, but try turning off quick sync in server settings. Recall that when you enabled quick sync, you agreed that you would try disabling it in the event of any playback problems. Thanks !

I reset the Shark codes but did not fix my issue.

I switch off the option

Enable hardware decoding for: H264 and now .flv files play.

Strange thing though Shark codec does not seem to open when viewing .flv files.

unchecked "H264" under "Enable hardware decoding for"   in the server settings

WMC / EMC should directly play that media, so look for any setting that would imply transcoding. My server 'Transcoding' tab settings are what I assume are defaults...

- Hardwar acceleration - None

- Trsncoding thread count - Auto

- Enable Throttling - checked

- H264 preset - Auto

Change the server with the above setting.

FLV files play only problem I can't skip forward or backwards or FWD or RWD when viewing FLV files.

This only happens when viewing FLV files.

If I right click on the FLV file and choose Windows Media Center to open the FLV file in windows explorer then I have all functions working i.e. Forward, rewind, skip forward and skip backwards.

Yea for some reason the file is transcoding, probably because the machine does not have direct access to the media file and therefore has to stream through Emby Server. but @@ebr will be able to give you a better answer.

I have Emby Server, WMC and Emby for WMC/WMB all running on the same machine, but I will take a look at the share righst etc.

Thanks

That is my guess too but would need to see an EMC log from when you played it to confirm.

Hi.  That's a transcode log not a log from Emby for Media Center (see the section on EMC in the how to report a problem post).

However, if your UNC paths don't work, that is the problem (or at least a problem).

%programdata%\MediaBrowser-Classic\logs

Do you require the MBClassic Log or Configurator log?

or

Windows: %appdata%\Emby-Server\logs

The MBClassic log but I already know what it is going to tell me.  The only way EMC will attempt a transcode is if it couldn't access your media location and you already confirmed they are not accessible.  So you need to solve that issue.

Will try sort out the UNc issue and get back to you.

Thanks for the help

Does it only access the media location via UNC?

The Emby Server and WMC, Emby MBC are all on the same machine

So try setting up your emby libraries with the direct folder path.

See attached, this is how I have my folders setup at the moment.

If the media is on the same machine at the server then try using the direct folder path rather than they network path
