ron.bali 5 Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 I am mostly a happy Emby user with about 1300 movies and 1200 TV episodes on a NAS that connects to a well configured Windows 10 where the Emby server runs. We connect to the server from Android devices, LG TVs using the DLNA, or an Android TV box (mibox-3). I like the way the database works, I like the collections, I like the way TV episodes are displayed on the Android TV (Android 6). On Monday we had people around for a movie – The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) which was in 1080p, 6-channel audio, with subtitles – about 5 Gb. About 80 minutes in the power to the house went off, came back in about a minute, then after a few more minutes the Emby server on Windows was back and the NAS was alive and healthy. So we wanted to resume at about the 80 min mark: 1. I tried the Android TV box, it shows chapters so I could pick a chapter at around 80 min, but it would display the loading pattern then say “Too many errors”. I re-tried this twice more. 2. I tried using DLNA on the LG TV (a 2014 TV with WebOS1.4), and you can slide the pointer to 80 minutes but it then just sits there, maybe if I had waited a long time it may have played, but we gave up for the day and went to eat. Next day I resumed my investigation and 1. Made a copy of the movie on a USB device, plugged it to the back of Android TV, then used VLC for Android and could play it and it was very easy to fast forward quite rapidly to 80 minutes. An alternative app on the Android TV was Kodi and it could also fast forward smoothly. 2. Almost the same approach – use ES File explorer on Android TV and navigate to the movie on the file system of the NAS. Then use VLC or KODI So my gripe is that Emby will not let me start a movie in the middle. I think it is connected with transcoding but this is a guess as there is no indicator that I know of that tells you when it is transcoding. However, I don’t know why it would be transcoding when the file can play directly on the Andriod TV. I would appreciate any advice.
ebr 16185 Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 I suspect this is related to your power failure. Emby has not only full seeking capability but, also, tracks resume points for you automatically. When you came back to the item in the Android TV app after getting everything back up, you should have seen a "Resume from ..." button as the first one on the detail screen. The best thing to do at this point would be to reproduce your issue and then provide the information requested in reporting a playback issue. Thanks!
