MarcusJ 18 Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Hi Everyone! I have a pretty large emby server database - approaching 4,000 movies, 2,000 shows, 15-20,000 songs, and hundreds of thousands images. Recently, I have noticed that changes I have made to the movie metadata in the "Metadata Manager" don't get completely saved. When I hit the "Save" button, I get the dreaded spinning circle. I ignore it and go on. When I check the movie again (later in the same Metadata Manager session), the changes are still there. However, when I switch over to "Manager Server", I notice that the screen does this odd little quiver for a split second, then all appears normal. WHat's that about??? Then after running a full scan, I once again go into the "Metadata Manager" to confirm the changes, but the changes are not there??? I've have now resorted to going into the affected .nfo files directly using Notepad and comparing the contents to other movies that have the saved settings I want (locked data, plot, genres...). It's obvious the changes are not there in the affected file. I manually update the file by copying the exact syntax of the properly functioning .nfo file, and then run another scan and all the changes show up fine. Any ideas what may cause this? I have also noticed that previous changes that I've made are getting lost or reset. Most importantly, the locked data settings seem to be getting reset to none. It has taken me a year to get 60% of my library cleaned up with proper identification of the movie, clean plots, genres, and truly wonderful artwork (often unique, self created, 1-of-a-kind artwork). After making the movie metadata changes, I ALWAYS lock the data fields at the bottom to ensure the systems automated lookup features don't overwrite the tedious work I have done. Unfortunately, I started noticing some missing artwork recently and looked deeper into the movies' metadata. I was shocked and very VERY disappointed that 25-30% of the movies that I had individually scrubbed and updated had their data locks all set to unchecked status (unprotected), and the robust set of artwork often replaced with bare minimum junk art that the system found and overwrote. I have no good clear idea how long this has been going on, but I believe it has only started with the latest emby server version. These problems are big deals in themselves - especially if others are seeing them, but they collectively also raise another set of questions...Is there ANY way to BULK CHANGE THE LOCKED DATA SETTINGS. In other words, I'd like to lock 100% of my metadata to protect it from any future system induced changes. Today, the metadata defaults to no locked data, and I'd like the option to set it as ALL data locked. I could then unlock them selectively when I require or desire it. Make sense? Similarly, Is there any way to bulk update any other metadata fields? I'd love to be able to pick a standard set of genres for a particular type of movie (Romantic Comedies, for example), and have a tool to check all the movies with the same basic profile so they can all be set to the same genres. I probably have 2-300 Romantic Comedies that today, require me to visit each one's metadata individually to set their genre. Sorry for the long note. I probably should have created multiple topics, but I am never sure which issues are related to one another which would be lost if I separated them into individual topics. Anyway, thank you in advance for any help of guidance you can offer.
Luke 42080 Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Bulk edits are something we'd like to add in a future update. If you're having an issue with the metadata manager, please discuss a specific example, and then attach the information requested in how to report a problem. thanks !
