My mother in law wants to make a MB3 server from an old desktop she has problem is that it has vista on it. I have a clean copy of 7 that I can install and put the server on but I am wondering if the computer can handle it. It is a HP Pavilion a6050e if you guys could find specs and tell me what you think that would be awesome? She currently runs plex on it but likes my MB3 UI much better so hopefully I can make it work for her thanks alot.

Depends on what is in it... There are configuration options available. You can get full specifications by pressing WINKEY+R and typing in MSINFO32. You'll probably want to increase the RAM and use Windows 7 64-bit though. Gives you a few advantages.

The issue would be transcoding and even the lowest powered processor option for this model should be able to transcode one or two streams without problem. If she is using clients capable of direct play, that would be less of a problem. You can also lower transcoding issues by using a Mobile Device profile to build the content.

Specs are here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01059799&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3385410

Right now I've got similar specs running my server/living room MBC.  I don't do much of anything requiring transcoding, and just about everything I do works just fine for me.

ok thanks guys right now all I have avalible is a 32 bit disc I may try it and see if it works or I really need the 64. If I run in to any problems I will post the exact specs for the machine like you said.

64 gives you more memory access... The server itself is only a 32 bit application.

As far as just our server is concerned I don't think it will matter a bit between 32 and 64.  Both flavors limit our process to a 2GB address space (unless we've marked large format aware, which I don't think we have).

Now, if you're going to have it doing other stuff then more memory is always better.
