Spames 2 Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Many, many more features in the Fire TV app. What is the end game? Some day are we hoping for a like experience between apps/devices? The Fire TV blows the Emby Theater away!
Tur0k 148 Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 I may have to look at a FireTV. Is the experience close to an Apple TV or Chromecast? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Guest asrequested Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Well, first off, which version of theater are you referring to? The store version and the desktop version only share a UI. Everything else is different. And I'm pretty sure that fire TV doesn't support all that theater desktop does. In fact nothing supports everything that theater desktop does. I believe the closest is shield. If you're just referring to the UI, yes they are working on making everything be the same.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 They definitely have a goal of matching the UIs as much as possible...but saying the android TV app is more full-featured than the theater app makes no sense to me. What features do you think theater is missing from the android tv app?
Spames 2 Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 The Emby Theater for WIndows is what I'm referring to. Just off the top of my head, here are the things that Emby Theater for Windows doesn't have: Ability to open the Guide while watching Live TV. Ability to pause and time-shift live TV Better/easier management of recordins And the UI is overall much more robust in Fire TV.
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Theater does support this: Ability to pause and time-shift live TV
Spames 2 Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 I can pause and un-pause, but can't go back or forward. Using WMC remote commands.
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 I've tested and it seems to be working fine. Try installing from the website to ensure you're running the latest version. Thanks !
Guest asrequested Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 I think he's using the store version. He said Theater for windows, as they are both for windows, I assumed it was the store version and not the desktop. Am I correct, Spames?
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 The store version supports it as well, although I'm not positive it is catching all of the WMC remote buttons. I'll have to check on that.
Spames 2 Posted August 4, 2017 Author Posted August 4, 2017 I think he's using the store version. He said Theater for windows, as they are both for windows, I assumed it was the store version and not the desktop. Am I correct, Spames? I'm using this one on Windows 7: https://emby.media/emby-theater.html I'm moving from WMC and decided one of my HTPC's would be better utilized as a dedicated Linux Emby server, so I put a fire TV in it's place and was pleasantly surprised with the overall functionality. I may just have to get one for my main TV too. Just not sure if one client path is going to give a better experience overall than others.
