allenarissa 3 Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Hello, I was wondering if there is anyway to ignore specific folder names or extensions in the media scan. I read that I can insert a file called ".ignore" in the folder but I have a program that is creating a folder all over the place. Or, can I exclude a specific extension (.ts) from the scan? Thanks Allen
Luke 42080 Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Hi, we don't currently have configuration for this so .ignore will be your best bet. You can also try marking files or folders as hidden. Let us know if this helps. thanks.
allenarissa 3 Posted July 29, 2017 Author Posted July 29, 2017 Thank You. I actually made a PowerShell script to monitor my drive and to copy .ignore if the temp folder is created in windows 10. Please let me know if anyone wants to see what I did. I will see how it works. 1

vdrover 62 Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 I see. Adding `.ignore` marks it as hidden. I have a TV library on a linux box. For a show, I have the episodes in the parent folder and I have some PDFs in a subfolder. Currently, it thinks the subfolder is an extra season. I added '.ignore' to the subfolder, rescanned the library, and updated the meta data. But still the subfolder is showing up as an extra season. Any tips?
rbjtech 5284 Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 hmm that should work. Does emby have access to the .ignore file - ie does it have the same read permissions as the other files ?
vdrover 62 Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 I had paid close attention to the permissions, but that didn't help. I solved it my scanning the library and refreshing the meta data from the scheduled tasks area vs the links in the main app.

Anyway - all sorted. Edited January 4, 2022 by rbjtech

vdrover 62 Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 I was expecting the .ignore files to be respected and the extra "seasons" to disappear. When I used the scan/refresh feature from the scheduled tasks area, it worked as expected.
vdrover 62 Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 So the links in the library area don't work? Is there a bug report to file?

As adding a .ignore file removes any folder I add it to, but obviously from Item Deatails you have to manually refresh the page.
vdrover 62 Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 @Happy2Play I don't think it's a page refresh issue. For me, if I add the .ignore file to a folder and click `scan library files` from the Series menu, the ignored files remain. I have to use `scan library files` in the scheduled tasks area.

What are you calling the Series menu? Can you go over a specific example with exact steps as any method I have tried removes folder items that contain a .ignore.
