GoodGuy98 0 Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 I can't seem to get Emby Connect to work. I may have made a dumb mistake but I am lost. I am trying to add the Emby Skill for Amazon Alexa. https://pitangui.amazon.com/spa/index.html#skills/dp/B071GP8C3F/?ref=skill_dsk_skb_sr_0 First I signed into Amazon Alexa and tried to Enable the Skill. It opened a new web page asking for my Emby Connect UserID and Password which it accepted. Next it said it would list the Emby Server(s) in a pull-down list. There was no servers listed. I have Emby Server for Windows Version 3.2.26.0 running and was signed in on another web page. I have created an Emby Account which I am using to post this topic. I may not understand what Emby Connect is all about, but I thought I set it up. Any help is appreciated because I can't seem to get Emby Connect working properly.
Luke 42078 Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 It sounds like you haven't set up Emby Connect. Try following this guide for admins: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Emby%20Connect Let us know if this helps. Thanks.
GoodGuy98 0 Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 I believe I setup Emby Connect in the past. I navigated to Users in the server dashboard as the Guide for Administrators instructed.and clicked on my User Account. The only thing that happened was a green light bar appeared for a second across the square with my picture and user name. Next I left-clicked on the three dots next to my user name and clicked on "Open" when it was displayed. Nothing happened when I did that either. I have my uBlock Origin ad-blocker disabled on the localhost web page and it shows greyed out in the Firefox toolbar area. I also have http://localhost:8096 set to allow popups assuming I did it properly. Thank you for the replay.
Luke 42078 Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 We are not using a popup here so if ublock is blocking that would be incorrect on their part. did you try removing ublock? Please do that or test with another browser such as Chrome so that you can proceed. Thanks.
GoodGuy98 0 Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 I disabled the Firefox extension HTTPS Everywhere and the dialog showed up. Screen captures attached.
GoodGuy98 0 Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 I am able to signon using this link, so the server is running. http://localhost:8096/emby/web/index.html
Luke 42078 Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 did you connect to http://app.emby.media or https://app.emby.media?
GoodGuy98 0 Posted July 28, 2017 Author Posted July 28, 2017 I clicked the link on the Wiki page You're now ready to use Emby Connect with your apps. You can easily test this using the online web app. http://app.emby.media/
Luke 42078 Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 check the addresses displayed on the front page of your emby server dashboard. are they correct?
steve54 0 Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 I have been on the phone with Alexa support for over an hour trying to get the Alexa/Emby app to connect to the Emby server. When I try to link the server to Alexa it does not give a list of servers. I am able to sign on at http://app.emby.media and play my media. Any suggestions as to why the list of servers does not come up?
GoodGuy98 0 Posted July 31, 2017 Author Posted July 31, 2017 I just started Emby and the In-Home (LAN) access: displayed. It hasn't done that for quite awhile. When I attempted to install the Alexa Emby skill, it displayed my Emby Server name using Emby Connect and it worked. I did the User Link setup and confirmed the email. I switched to a different router, but would not expect that to make a difference. It seems fixed at this point. Thank you for your help.

You can learn how to do that here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Emby%20Connect Scroll down to the section "Guide for Administrators". Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !
steve54 0 Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 I linked it before I tried to set up the Alexa skill. I am able to use the web app to play media from home although I cannot play media away from home.

I am able to use the web app to play media from home although I cannot play media away from home. This sounds like a general connection problem, and because of the way alexa works, this will also affect Alexa. Please check out our Connection Troubleshooter. Please try the steps listed there and let us know exactly which ones succeed and which ones fail. thanks !
GoodGuy98 0 Posted July 31, 2017 Author Posted July 31, 2017 @@Luke Now the In-Home (LAN) access: displayed line is missing again. When I opened the Emby Web App http://app.emby.media/selectserver.html It listed my Server name EMBYWin7. I clicked on it and it did not connect, eventually timing out. If the In-Home (LAN) access: displayed line is missing, I have connection issues. I wonder what causes Emby to not display that line and how to correct the problem.

Luke 42078 Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 @@GoodGuy98, i would need to see the server log but most likely something changed network-wise on your system and emby server was unable to automatically determine the local network address.
steve54 0 Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 (edited) I went through the connection trouble shooter (I tried both the internal and external IP listed on the server dashboard. I can connect okay with an internal link but cannot connect with an external link. I set up port forwarding on my router for port 8096 but I still connect with an external link. ebr 16184 Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 I went through the connection trouble shooter. I can connect okay with an internal link but cannot connect with an external link. I set up port forwarding on my router for port 8096 but I still connect with an external link. Exactly what step failed and how did it fail? This points to a network configuration issue either with the firewall or router.
steve54 0 Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Adding a server to Emby Connect failed. Everything else worked okay. I set up the firewall to allow emby and opened port 8096 on the router without any problems. It just occurred to me that maybe I should have put mediabrowserver as the program to be allowed. Could that be the problem?
Luke 42078 Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Yes try it but did you also see the other items in our wiki related to windows firewall? thanks.

It would appear you have a general network problem that needs sorting out. Look at the http requests in your log, all of the ones within your network are failing. That includes requests to your HDHR, requests to your PlayOn server, etc.

I am not sure what I can do about it at this time. Our family is going thru some troubles. If you have any suggestions on courses of action, I would appreciate any ideas.
