Swynol 375 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Hey, having some weird problems. I have some movies that dont work right. for example - Puss in boots, dvd rip with 6 channel AC-3 sound. The video will play fine on my main htpc using MBT but no sound, on my laptop running MBT it wont play at all i get the error cannot process the request, using the web client it plays perfectly. im using the same filters on all machine, LAV, madvr. tried playing around with them but still nothing. seems to happen mostly with mp4's that have 6 channel AC-3.
AdrianW 1058 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I'm pretty sure AC3 shouldn't be in an mp4 container - mp4 is made for h264 + AAC. Try remuxing into mkv (just about anything can be in mkv) or re-encoding the audio to 6 channel AAC.
Tikuf 663 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 You can do it but for max compatibility (if you have xbox's or wmc it may not like the combo particularly xbox) it is best to use aac in mp4 (particularly with 5.1) . Personally I would re contain those files into mkv using mkv merge gui (just load up the mp4 and click on start muxing.
Swynol 375 Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 ok thanks, strange it worked fine previously, maybe 2-3 weeks ago. also noticed on some of my old rips which are avi also dont work, they are the same mpeg-4 and AC3.
Swynol 375 Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 looking at the logs 2014-02-22 11:27:44.2136 Error - DirectShowPlayer: Error beginning playback Cannot play back the audio stream: the audio format is not supported. so why does it play fine in the webclient? and has worked in the past?
Tikuf 663 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) The web client is transcoding the file where as mbt is direct playing it is not apples and apples you are comparing they use completely different playback methods. I dont know why it is not longer working in mbt. I was just suggesting that if you had an xbox 5.1 ac3 is not such a good idea. Edited February 22, 2014 by Tikuf
Swynol 375 Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 ok thanks, so is there no way to play AC3 audio in MBT? just notice all my DVD rips are AC3 and non of those play either
ebr 16169 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 You can play AC3 audio if you do what they suggested and change the container type. So, either change the audio type or the main container type. The combination you have now is not supported by many devices.
Swynol 375 Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 my newset dvd rips are mkv with ac3 audio and it still doesnt play i used handbrake on one to change ac3 to aac and it now plays fine.just dont want to have to do it to the other 300 dvds i have. has something changed in MBT because they used to play fine a few weeks ago
Swynol 375 Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 quick update, i disabled audio bitstreaming restarted and re enabled bit streaming, MKV files now playing fine but still an issue with other containers. so must of been something weird with my setup.
A8HTPC 38 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Im not playing multichannel but most audio on my blurays and dvds are all AC3 and play perfectly fine. I noticed something with reclock or lav, maybe ffdshow...Can't remember, one of those I did something with the audio and I got a similar problem. You fool with any settings in any of those? Rack your brain?
