jellowe 8 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 I noticed that in 2.8.1 if I drill down to a particular episode, as soon as I click on the episode it starts playing instead of opening the details window (which shows Resume, Play, Watched, Favorite, synopsis, media info, screenshots, context menu, etc). For example if I navigate to TV->The 4400->Season 2 and click on Episode 3, it starts playing episode 3. However, if I navigate to TV->The 4400 and episode 3 is listed as "Next Up", I can click on the Next Up episode and it shows the details for that episode as normal. From there I can click Resume, Play, etc. This behavior does not happen in the web client, only Theater. Also, I noticed that the Restart option was removed when going into the Settings menu. Shutdown and Sleep are still there but no Restart. Will that feature return at some point? 1
Luke 42078 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 I think for the episode list, given how much information is displayed in the list, this is the best default behavior. I suppose we can always add an option though if enough people disagree. As far as restart goes, that wasn't' intentional. we'll look at that, thanks.
jscoys 147 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 For my part I like this new behaviour. But, as every behaviour we change there are some people preferring the old one so... an option would be appreciated. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1
jellowe 8 Posted July 11, 2017 Author Posted July 11, 2017 My setup automatically downloads some shows and often times I will get several copies of the same show (720p, 1080p, 480p) and I like having the ability to access the context menu to delete the unwanted copies. Furthermore, when you select an episode from the main menu you are taken to the details page rather than paying the episode automatically. I find this incongruous. Plus, if selecting an episode automatically plays rather than showing the details page, is it smart enough to resume if the episode is partially watched? Or does it just start over from the beginning? I prefer the ability to make that choice myself. And the fact that the Web client operates the old way just makes it seem like theater is missing functionality. It seems odd that so much effort was put into making emby look and operate the same way across multiple devices only to make a change in theater so that it behaves different. Just my two cent
Luke 42078 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 The difference is that on the home screen you don't get the same amount of information as you do in the list screen. That's what makes the detail screen more valuable when coming in from home. And yes it is smart enough to resume. The web app is changing too. It is designed to be as simple as click and play. To get to the detail screen, you'll have to press the "i" info button. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/48944-32231-episodes-list/
jellowe 8 Posted July 12, 2017 Author Posted July 12, 2017 That pic is the web client, yes? I do like the look of that. Will the same layout and functionality apply to Theater as well? My biggest concern is being able to delete individual episodes and being able to refresh an individual episode (I had an episode download Spanish plot summary for some reason and had to manually refresh to get English). This looks good to me and yes I would prefer this in Theater to having the detail page for each episode. This seems a little easier. Thank you, Luke.
Luke 42078 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 The same layout is already in Theater when in desktop and mobile layout modes. In TV mode obviously with only a remote control there won't be the individual buttons on each episode. 1
jellowe 8 Posted July 12, 2017 Author Posted July 12, 2017 (edited) Ok I didn't realize that, I always left the display mode setting to Auto. I will change it to Desktop mode. Or is there any way you could add that same functionality to TV mode? I am really missing the ability to refresh metadata and delete media for a single episode. It would really be handy to have that functionality back. Edited July 12, 2017 by jellowe
jellowe 8 Posted July 12, 2017 Author Posted July 12, 2017 Also, how can i downgrade to a version where I can still get to the episode detail screen? I tried downloading an older 2.7 release from github and unzipping it over my Emby-Theater folder but when I select an episode it still auto plays rather than showing the detail screen. I went all the way back to 2.5 and it autoplays and I cannot get it to show the detail screen. What do I need to do? Wipe all the entries out of the registry? Are there other folders that need to be deleted to get back to an older version? Thanks.
paulsalter 84 Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 I would also like an option to go to the details screen instead of auto playing the episode I wanted to Favourite an episode and add to a playlist last night, could not see any way to do this as cannot get Episode details up 1
Rayger 14 Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 I recently discovered this behavior too. I had an episode that i wanted to mark as watched. But now with this functionality, I'm not able to do it from Theater.
Jack Burton 98 Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 Noticed this too, and miss the details page. Wanted to know what format a tv show was in and couldn't see the deets for the episode from Theatre
