jluce50 122 Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 (edited) After moving all my files to my NAS, I changed the library location to the NAS and removed Path Substitution (since the files are no longer local to the server). I can play the files fine in Kodi via Direct Paths from the HTPC that is running Emby. However, I couldn't even get Kodi to sync on my FireTV until I changed Playback Mode to Addon. Now it will sync, but when I attempt to play anything I get an error saying, "Unable to direct play the file smb://NAS_NAME/TV Shows/Episode.mkv". I tried changing the Network Credentials to the NAS address and the user I set up on the NAS for Emby. Still nothing. Can anyone who's using a NAS let me know how they got Kodi working on their remote clients? Edited July 10, 2017 by jluce50
Angelblue05 4132 Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Until you get an answer, you can enable playback from http in the addon settings. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mastrmind11 722 Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 ^^ Just use http. There are no drawbacks as far as I can tell. 1
jluce50 122 Posted July 10, 2017 Author Posted July 10, 2017 Ah, okay. I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

Make sure your video quality is high to ensure everything direct plays. If it's low, it will transcode instead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited July 10, 2017 by Angelblue05

Can anyone who's using a NAS let me know how they got Kodi working on their remote clients? I am NOT an expert on any of this, but like you I have a FireTV running Kodi with Emby on a NAS (FreeNAS to be exact). I've found the FireTV to be a little finicky with Kodi and would actually suggest a couple of things: Try to do a full reset of the Kodi database (from the FireTV's Emby addon configuration menu) If that doesn't fix it, and assuming you don't mind doing some extra work, do a full uninstall and reinstall of Kodi and the Emby addon on the FireTV. If you use the free Downloader app by the guy who does AFTVnews it's very easy. But again, not a real expert here, but full resets of the database seems to usually fix a number of issues on our various FireTVs (Gen 1 & 2's and even Sticks) running Kodi and the Emby addon. A full uninstall/reinstall is my weapon of last resort when I have some odd pesky issue where I can't find some clever person on these forums to help (which is pretty rare).
jluce50 122 Posted July 11, 2017 Author Posted July 11, 2017 I actually did do a full reset, though I have yet to reinstall. It's currently working partially. I can start a video, but then if I stop it and start another video I get an error saying that it was unable to open the file (even with http enabled). I hate to do a full reinstall, but at this point I may not have another option.

It'll show the filename, which if you have http enabled and did a full db reset/rescan library, should be a URL.
e123enitan 275 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 (edited) My set up is as follow, very simple setup Kodi as client, Windows 7/emby as server and NAS (WD Ext 4) which store media files all the devices are connected via LAN CAT6 cable. Emby Server media files (Movies/TV Shows) connect to NAS via file path 192.168.1.110\movies or 192.168.1.110\TV shows Kodi, every settings is as default, except server path 192.168.1.101/user name, I select addon as option, no music, and let the system process scan. it has been working for 3 yrs no issue, not sure if this is the best setup but it works for me. I actually went ahead and did a full reinstall last night and that seems to have fixed the issue. This has happened before, though, so if it comes up again I'll be sure to post the log. 1
