thejacer87 9 Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 dunno how netflix does it (i assume cuz they know their files and lengths and exactly when the credit start)i saw my kid (only 3 years old... fml lol), hit the "play next episode" button, and i thought it would be a nices feature. i can forsee some issues trying to get the button to show up right when the credits start, so maybe at least have a specific button for going straight to next epsiode
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 (edited) Depending on the client it should already have a option to automatically play the next episode. The web client has it in "user preference-playback" Edited July 9, 2017 by Happy2Play
ebr 16184 Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 They all have the ability to automatically play the next episode and the TV-based apps (Roku coming soon) also have a timed display like Netflix. Although, as you surmised, there is no way for us to know when the credits start so it is just set to about 45 seconds before the true end.

Luke 42079 Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Not all apps have that yet but it is planned for the future that all of them will. Thanks !
LASooner 24 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Can I turn it off? It doesn't work on some of my shows, and it's cutting off the end of my shows.
ebr 16184 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Can I turn it off? It doesn't work on some of my shows, and it's cutting off the end of my shows. Hi. What do you mean by "its cutting off the end of my shows"? Are you talking about advancing to the next episode or the display that comes up? If you are talking about the display, you can just dismiss it with the back key. Finally, in what app?
Luke 42079 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 We'll add a setting. in the meantime you can just dismiss the dialog to avoid the show getting cut off.
LASooner 24 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Theater Desktop is what I'm using. The whole point of a playlist is I don't want to touch the remote. It does it on TV episodes and playlists. The 2 issues are some shows play scenes through the credits. And the countdown to the next episode isn't synced to the actual time left in the episode, otherwise it wouldn't be cutting off episodes. Tosh.0 is a show that displays this behavior the most.
ebr 16184 Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Okay, so by "cutting off episodes" you just mean it is obscuring the screen, right?
jordy 284 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Actually, It does cut off the last few seconds of the current/playing episode in ET desktop, I experienced this last night. Not sure exactly by how much though. Not a problem when the credits etc are present but for some shows they have been cut off and then I lose some of the actual show.
Luke 42079 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 The web app has a setting to turn the info dialog off. It will carry over to Emby Theater as well.
LASooner 24 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Okay, so by "cutting off episodes" you just mean it is obscuring the screen, right? No, it is going to the next episode before the current one finishes

Could there be a data field in metadata manager / nfo filled with the default value runtime minus 45 secs you mentioned (e.g. <begincredits>45:35</begincredits>)? If someone wants to alter it with the exactly beginning position of credits, he can do and the screen overlay will pop up just then? This would be really nice. Edited July 24, 2017 by shorty1483
ebr 16184 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 No, it is going to the next episode before the current one finishes Then that is probably completely unrelated to this feature which does nothing except show you information about the next item to be played.

As neat as that sounds I don't think it is really practical just because pretty much no one would ever discover or use it. It would need to be at the Series level if we did it though.
LASooner 24 Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Then that is probably completely unrelated to this feature which does nothing except show you information about the next item to be played. It wasn't happening until this feature showed up. So I got the latest version of server and found the setting, but it's not saving. Here you see I've unchecked the setting, and saved it. Says settings saved. When I go back to the main settings menu, then back to playback settings, the change did not "take" So I check the config file, and there isn't any corresponding flag for this feature. What is the flag to disable the countdown feature?
LASooner 24 Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Is this the correct line? <EnableNextVideoOverlay>false</EnableNextVideoOverlay>
ebr 16184 Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Just use the web interface to configure it. He says that is not working. See post 17. It wasn't happening until this feature showed up. Interesting...

Although, as you surmised, there is no way for us to know when the credits start so it is just set to about 45 seconds before the true end. This probably wouldn't work due to the many variations of the files, but I wonder if something like when the credits roll could be crowd sourced? A database somewhere that has a hash of the file and a time when the credits start. Emby would sync that. Or, maybe a generic per show?. Would having a per show time be beneficial? Something that syncs out of the cloud? Just tossing ideas. I always thought something like that would be cool for opening sequences, so you could skip past it. But managing that would be a hassle.

I think that would be a great metadata field for tvdb to add, and/or MovieDb. I would suggest filing a feature request with them.
PrincessClevage 175 Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 I also had a show change to next episode before it had actually finished (ET destop, latest test version). I always thought the backdrop splash screen was polished and professional transition, I find this new method less appealing ( just my single opinion)
dcook 299 Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Can you tell me how I turn off this overlay? Its not needed at all and serves no purpose other then to disrupt the viewing of the current episode. 90% of my shows have no credits, so this overlay is a serious problem that is ruining the last minute or so of whatever I am watching. The next episode can start playing once the current episode is finished, there is no need to tell me before hand that it will start playing the next episode! Perhaps before you implement these things you should talk about them first here and we can give you feedback and tell you what the problems are instead of getting frustrated with this and having to report it and wait for fixes.
Luke 42079 Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 There will be a setting in the next release, thanks.
