parrish 22 Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 I keep hoping that a very annoying DLNA issue will be resolved with each new version that is released but, as of yet, this has not been the case. For at least the last 3 versions (not exactly sure how far back it goes) I am unable to browse any of my media files via DLNA from the Xbox One, Dish Hopper (and Joeys), nor the Vizio Smart TV. Previously it worked perfectly from all these devices. What I'm seeing is that the default folders for the media appear (Movies, Collections, Genres, Favorites, Suggestions, etc) but, when opening any of those folders, it shows there is no files in those folders or (in the case of the Xbox One) says no files could be found. However, if I use Windows Media Player (for example) to browse the same Emby server via DLNA it will find all the media files. I'm currently running 3.2.22.0 on a Server 2016 box. Any ideas? 1
Luke 42085 Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Hi, what about windows media player from another device?
parrish 22 Posted July 4, 2017 Author Posted July 4, 2017 Hi Luke, Windows Media Player from other devices can see the media in all the folders. I've done more testing with Dish, the Xbox, and MediaHouse on my Android devices. All those devices have the same results. They see the server and the folders. But they all, save for one folder, show up as being empty. The one, and only, folder that works is the Artist folder under Music. That one shows all the artists and associated albums for each respective artist. It's almost like the other folders aren't being indexed or something along those lines? When using the Emby web app everything is present and working as expected.
parrish 22 Posted July 4, 2017 Author Posted July 4, 2017 I just tried BubbleUpnp and am having exactly the same result as I mentioned with Dish, Xbox, etc. It can see the server and the media folders. But, apart from the Artists folder under Music, all are showing up as having no media. Is there any way to delete all the existing DLNA data and have it reindex all the media?
parrish 22 Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 I got tired of trying to figure out how to solve this issue so I went nuclear on it. I uninstalled Emby and removed every piece of Emby on the server (all folders, files, everything). Then I reinstalled 3.2.22.0 fresh and set it all back up. Should have just done that in the first place as it was much quicker compared to how much time I've had in trying to troubleshoot the existing install. A fresh install (retaining no data from the previous install) did the trick. DLNA browsing from BubbleUPnP, Dish Hopper and Joeys, etc is now working properly once again.
Luke 42085 Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 @@parrish how many emby users did you have on your server before?
parrish 22 Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) Just one- for myself. So the reinstall was pretty painless. I did document all the settings before wiping out the server- not that I needed to reference them other than for quickly recalling the various paths to my media. I've been running this same server since around 2014 or so (can't remember exactly) back when it was still named MediaBrowser Server and have just upgraded along the way. So maybe there was something from all those updates that had become corrupted. Edited July 6, 2017 by parrish
Luke 42085 Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Ok, if your installation was that old then I suppose we may just chalk it up to that. Thanks for the feedback.

I am having the same issue, if I reinstall then restore from backups would this work? Or would it just place the previous problem back in place? EDIT: @@Luke? Edited July 11, 2017 by Untoten
